Does anyone on this site fly in Lisbon Portugal?? My wife is taking me there in May, and if I must endure 20 hours of travel in each direction at least maybe I can see some helis there. Thanks. Keith

If you pass by the algarve, I'll be around too

Tony

PS - I hope it isn't the first weekend in May because we have the 3Dx Championship in Utrera Spain and my bet is that most portuguese fliers will be attending...

TSKFAN are you taking your heli's over there?

I'll be going there in august and i would like to take at least a 450 with me but am not sure how it will go at the airport.

Is there any good event going on in the first couple weeks of august near cantanhede or coimbra i live by Mira.

Thank you guys for the response. I'm not man enough to test the waters as far as taking a heli along. I understand the idea of carrying a model along can be a real hassle, whether it's a nitro powered, or electric, the regulations are long, and since I'll only be there for 7 days, I don't think I'll try that. Yes, we will be arriving on Saturday the 3rd(?)so any fliers on that weekend may be gone. I'm not sure when we leave the next weekend. So, maybe I'll just have to be satisfied with magazines. I don't believe we will be traveling much out of the area of Lisbon, so getting to other fields won't happen. #$%@@4 Again, thanks for the response, and if anyone can point me towards the flying area around Lisbon, maybe I can at least see where the guys would be flying. Keith

Hello stack08,

Mira is my favourite summer vacation place !

There is a flying site and it's often scheaduled events with Hidros at the lake.

In summer time ( June/July ) it takes place the biggest heli event there in Mira.

( see here last year's event )
http://www.helirc.net/fotos.htm

When you decide to come to Mira let me know

About carrying the helis, i think that carring an electric heli in your bag ( placed in the back of the plane ) will be no issue.
I brought my hummingbird from the US in my backpack inside the plane ( but it was 5 years ago ... i assume they dont let you do that any more ). Also carryed it with my 6channel radio a few years later to Germany in the back of the plane and no one complained.

You can ask but i believe that if the heli's bag is stored in the back of the plane you will have no issues.

Keep it up...literally

I know that place

In the same webpage you have the directions to the flying site.
It's not far from the beach.

http://www.helirc.net/localizacao.htm

The directions are in portuguese...but you have also the gps coordenates

I'm not certain of when i will be spending my vacations there this year, but i can drive there one weekend and take you to the flying site no problem

Keep it up...literally

Hi keith
I was in Portugal over christmas time and I met this young fellow and his father at a fun fly from Lisbon, and his nickname is (claudiotrex) here on RR.
Good luck and have a great Trip if you are not already there.

Rui_JC
I was very happy to see so many helis and Pilots on that big fun fly in Mira, congratulations to you all, one of these days when I'm there I have to take a trip to the north part of the country to see you all fly.

Regards
Nelson

As far as taking Helis to Portugal no problem I've taken a Raptor 50, T-rex 450, 600E and 600N. with the batteries a take them with 50% charge and the Nitro machines I usually wash the tank with alcohol.

You can fit them in your regular suite Case and take the canopies with you in the plane in side a bag, or you can put everything in a hard golf case.

CY, I think Tony wants to take the Aurora for a spin, and I think I know why you want to go there, sorry that young lady in yellow looks like she is already taken.

I like to go there for my family, good friends and those good Portuguese meals-wine-and that sweet dessert called "Sarradura" that we always have after going to the field.

P.S. I want to thank again the gentleman with the white beard, sorry I don't know your name, and Sergio Cruz, "F3C Portuguese champion", that I saw in those pictures, for coming to the Caliz fun fly. Even though it rained on Saturday, the helis survived. Sergio, I still would like to take your very nice 2008 Audi A5 3.0 TDI Quattro for a spin. They're not available here in Canada yet.

Cheers

Nelson

Naa. I'll be just happy to see one in person. You can do the flying

I usually don't go to portuguese events for personal reasons but I might open an exception in this case

I don't think I want to fly CY's Aurora either. I'm not that good yet. I would be too afraid too crash it (too hard to get some parts). Would rather watch with a glass of wine from Alenteijo.
