What reciever? I dont see it. I am ground and dont have any problems. Every one that has grounded there heli has had no problems. Which is why i question the grounding method. YOu check for a conection between the front pulley and tail shaft?

maybe the raptor's are more tried and proven? They seem a bit lower tech but they *are* strong.
The problem with the latest set of Align offerings is that they are relying on people who are not engineers to engineer a product. They may know what works and what doesn't work in a heli but I doubt they have any education on the engineering aspect of these designs.

And Align IS using consumers as it's Test base. Thats the only way they can truly get the birds to market so quickly.

I am pretty confidant that Align will quickly diagnose and fix the problem. It just sucks that they won't provide replacement heli's to those who have discovered the flaws.

This is incredible!!!!

I can’t understand WHY!! WHY!!

Align you better take your time on research on your new helicopters…..

Your hurry of doing things may kill someone!!
---------------------------------------------

I called Align and asked them what they are going to do with this.

It was a supprise to me the guy said Align would not do any thing about this.

I asked them to atleast speed up to produce TT. He said He would not know when Align release TT.

This problem would kill some body at the field.

This is suck.

The 500 is actually a very good machine. The build up of discharge can be significanly reduced if you remember do the following:

1)Lube the belt frequently...ie every time you go and fly. Reduces the friction and reduces the static buildup.

2)Use carbon/graphite spray(or even a soft lead pencil) and spray/rub that on the belt. Makes the belt conductive so the charge doesnt build up.

This doesnt solve the true basic issue(boom dia = too small for the belt setup) but it lets you live with the problem

Sounds like they haven’t even started working on a conversion kit yet. Maybe the belt drive is all we are doing to get

Bevel gears on a torque tube of this size would be difficult at best as far as reliability and strength...

Hi Tony-Tuong,
It appeared you have no problems whatsoever from the previous posts that you have posted during the past several months. Are you having issues now ? I am not surprised regarding what Align told you since they are not responsible for lockout, borwnout, and static issues. They have delivered thousands of 450,500,and 600s and no one has yet filed a law suit against them, to my knowledge. And to date, they are still pumping helis out like no tomorrow and more people are wating on the line to get them. May be everyone should dump 2.4 and go back to 72MHZ to see if problems persist.

I see JR & Spektrum mentioned all the time, but no Futaba FASST. Are they also having this static problem?

I say it is time to put a class action law suit against company's that are not responding to such issues. They know the problem exists, and its wrong for us to put up with this nonsense!

I did not crash mine yet. A friend of mine crashed in to his toyota four runner. Luckily, nobody was hurted. His son was right there. the cost to fix his heli and SUV is 5000$.

FYI: my friend is very conservative flyer. He haven't crashed for 2 years and 550 flights.

I am scared. I will try not to fly mine again.

I still don't understand why are you guys pointing figures at Align. ALign is only responsible for machenical and material issues. Not Static, lockout, or brownout issues. However, I have to say I have never used Align speed controllers, I use only Jazz 40-6-18 for my 450; anything above 4S, I use Schulze 32.55K - $320 a pup but well worth the money. Sorrty to hear your friends mishap, Tony. Myself, I never fly when there a peopel standing around. I never get close to anyone who flies heli, is not that I don't trust the pilot. I don't trust anything controlled by electronic signals other then military devices.

Nope, the problem is static generated by the belt can overcome the receiver. This has happened on 500s with other-brand ESCs as well. I think that a different belt material might aid in this issue. I am looking at the belt places online for something of the right size, but no luck so far. I am not doing this because mine has had a problem though. Mine has not, I silicone the belt occasionally and I grounded the frame. No issues so far here.

someone mentioned about the tube being to small. i am just building mine and found the with the belt as tight as i can get it the belt rubs the plastic in the boom mount. it also rubs at the tail. it seems that the pulleys are too big for the tube size. i ground a tappered lead-in and now it rubs the boom tube in the boom mount.

just some thoughts

i am working with my uncle (electrical engineer) on this. hopefully he can help.

I am an EE, this one doesnt take an EE to figure out. Just need to go to a childrens science exhibit...you know the static generator that makes your hair stand up...the 500 boom/belt config is the same thing.

Solution = larger dia boom, torque tube.

Quick fix = lube belt to reduce friction, make belt conductive using graphite spray. Either choise will reduce the static but in differnt ways.

I wonder if there is a way to adapt a 600 tail boom and rotor to the 500. Has anyone made a study of what it would take to make that kind of a mod?

Gotta go with batray on this one...Fasst has the same issue from what litle I've seen, 72 is known to hate CF framed helis..."static" resetting or disabling the bec...Just what the Dr. ordered for a brownout...
Interesting to hear from the GF frame crowd...How many of them are having this issue??
