Fighting torrential downpours and up to 40mph gusts, she took flight for the first time this weekend. Poured most of the day yesterday and had 30mph winds with 40mph gusts today (though it was at least dry), so I was only able to make a sporadic flight here and there.

I built it using Raptor 50V2 mechanics, JR 4131 servos on collective, aileron and elevator, Futaba 3001 on throttle, 401/9254, OS 50SX-H non-Hyper, TT muffler and Maverikk 600mm blades. The spot light on the nose is functional and uses a seperate 1100mah NiCd and a seperate switch so it doesn't draw off the Rx pack.

Here are a couple of hovering pics, one side in and one nose in. Can't wait for some more flying friendly weather to do some FF.

Congrats Man,

There is nothing like the feeling on the first flight. I has yet to be determined if it is a good feeling, or a feeling of horror.

Either way Good Job,

Butch

PS. My Viper got smoked by a Vega, Was that you?

LOL

It was definately a feeling of horror. The balance was dead on without fuel, tail heavy with. There is a TON of weight up front to make up for it being tail heavy when fueled up. Once I got the balance right, all it took was a few clicks of right aileron for her to sit in a pretty hover.

PS, never raced a Viper with the Vega, but my little 6cyl '87 Turbo Regal has shown it's tail lights to a number of them.

I painted the white Maverikk blades yellow to better match the fuse and also swapped the white paddles for black to slow down the cyclic.

I guess these scale projects are never really "done", are they!

It's built from a small flashlight, PVC tubing and a piece of aluminum bent and shaped to make a simple mounting bracket. Wired it to a seperate switch and 1100mah NiCd. I made a bracket to mount the switch on the side of the frame using an existing motor mount bolt. It's accessible through the rear window.
