hey guys, just wondering if I could get your opinion on a couple of things.

A bit of background

I went ahead and bought a Raptor 30 rather than a 600 EP, figuring it's a bit more cost effective training hour after hour on a cheapie (well not that cheap!), fuel efficient (20-30 min flights) nitro bird.

I'm saying this in this forum since I almost bought a 600 and want to take some 1 hour lessons and figured the batts will kill me on the big rex. Still love that ship though...

Okay, so hear are my questions:

1) Should I sell my 450 SE V1 and get a 500? Everyone says "keep the 450!" but it really bugs me I've "only" got a V1. Does this sound stupid? If I ebay'd the whole thing I'd start over with a 500 CF.

My back yard is big enough to fly either the 450 or a 500

2) If I did sell my 450 SE V1, what do you think I could get for it? It's never been crashed, just built, hovered and tweaked a bit and looks like new. Not a mark on it as big as a pin head.

450 SE V1 w/BL motor and controller
JR 6102 w/770 rec
GY401 w/9650
3x hs-56
TP 2100 (only done a few cycles)
Align Painted canopy
spare blades
Very carefully built

Is $699 out of the question? What do you guys think?

Would I do better to part it out? $300 for Rex, $200 for radio, $125 for Gyro, $100 for two tp2100's. Seems like a lot of hassle for a few dollars more...

I would sell the 450 with all its stuff, batteries and charger if the charger cant do 6s. I think you can get more than 650 for an se with servo gyro and 2 batteries.

for the 500 get a good 6s charger/balancer and an align 6s 2500.

600N 55HZ/SAB-55 600V's
700N 91HZ/SB-20 690V2 V's
90SG 91HZ/SB-20 710V2 V's

I never considered the 500 before I bought the 450SE V2 a few weeks ago. Now I have had moments where I wish I had. The main difference in price between the two is the battery prices. Part of me tells myself to sell off the 450 and get the 500...

Here is what I would do. Keep the items you need for the 500. Your radio,RX,gyro/9650,and batteries. Sell the rest... Use that money towards the 500.

thanks guys.

I'm okay in the charger dept, got an Astroflight 109 (sold my 1010c) which works really well.

Okay, let me see, if I sell off just the 450 and servos.

Seems that it's worth about $400 on ebay.

Then I get:

T-rex 500, $540
Batt, $150 (can use my 2x 3S for one pack)
3x 9650, $150
----------------
$840-$400 (450 sale)

$440 to upgrade to a 500, and I keep my JR 6102
If I sold my JR 6102 w/770 for $200 I could upgrade to 2.4 for $135.

$440+$135=$575 for a 500 on 2.4.

Now if I can get $700 for the 450 and sell it all off:

T-rex 500, $540
Batts, $300
4x 9650, $200
GY401, $150
DX7, $335
------------------
$1525-$700 (compl 450 sale)

$825 to upgrade to a 500 and 2.4G

Seems like parting out will be a cheaper in the end, albeit a bit more hassle/time on ebay, shipping, etc.

a little aside - I'm reading a lot about 500's gliching/static etc. Has anyone figured out what the prob is? The Spek DX7 seems too good to be true, is it? Is it part of the problem?

Thanks for the help guys!

enahs,

it's funny how getting one heli opens the door for the next larger one huh? I never thought I'd want something bigger than the 450 until I got one. Now I'm thinking of selling for a 500.

It's not too late to move out your 450 V2, they appear to fetch good $ on ebay!

Have you seen the 500 up close? It's a really nice heli...

It's a good thing I only have 6 flights on it. Not a lot of wear and tear on it. I have a 50 sized glow heli. I got the 450 for college and a heli to fly "year-round" but the 500 has me thinking hard. I haven't seen one yet in person, but I think it looks better than the 450. So tempting.

Also, check out amainhobbies.com. They have some of the lowest prices on the 500 I have found. I'm not sure how much they'd charge to ship to Canada but its worth a look.

enahs,

Okay, I was impressed when I saw one in person. It's just so much bigger and more substantial looking than the 450. Then the hobby shop guy brought it out into the parking lot, snow and all and wound it up. I had to step back a few feet, the thing's a beast, more like the 600, and moves a lot of air. It was so stable and it was quite windy out. Very impressive heli, can't stop thinking about it!

You're right, it's the batts that are more $ but once you've bought them, that's it, right?

Thanks for the hobby shop link, I'll check em out. I will prob just pay the extra at my lhs as they're the ones who got me started on the 500, and they're open Sunday for parts!

I guess I figure its still small enough to fly in similar places as the 450 but flies more like a 600-sized/50-size heli. I'm in the same boat as you and kinda am looking for people to tell me its ok to switch. Good luck!

yes switch other then batteries the price is the same, and the batterie price is well worth it. it is so much bigger, and sounds so cool.

using two 3s packs together is not the optimum settup, I am using that and tackoed one of my TP 2200s

600N 55HZ/SAB-55 600V's
700N 91HZ/SB-20 690V2 V's
90SG 91HZ/SB-20 710V2 V's
