I got bored, and dared by some buddies, to fly my MD500E onto a landing pad on the back of the moving vehicle(person inside the glass cab). Needless to say the first few approaches were better before I thought of the camera, but still pretty cool looking and very challenging.

Theres always new ways to keep scale type flying interesting.

The only non safety conscious thing about doing this is the threat to the heli. The driver of the vehicle was behind half an inch of steel and glass, so there is not danger to anyone involved. I agree that saftey should always be foremost in anything that we do.

That siad this is harder than it looks when you consider its a moving target and depth perception can be tricky when the pad is moving away from you.

You guys have to add some pitch and roll to the platform, make it like a real ship! Very nice though. Wish I could say during my time in the service that we did constructive things with our spare time.

Leave it to the Military guys with a Heli to push the envelope!
I could only imagine someone saying something about "Safety" to the men/women who risk thier lives to save others.... 5 by 5 on the video!

Thanks Fellas!
Its nice to have a huge hangar like that to practice in. We're in the USCG Air Defense Facility and our job down here is to wait for the alarm to go off, so theres lots of down time. At home in AC weve got 7 helos and we never have a spare minute so its kind of a vacation.

As for the flying, it seems you always do better stuff when theres no video camera. When our aircraft are in the hangar I cant really fly around much so I'm always thinking of new things do do in a hover to work on my precision flying.

Its good to see my Tax Dollars hard at work.

Put a R.A.S.T on that moving platform and you will be in every time. I am very impressed with the limited area landings. I sometimes land on a scale dolly. If you have not tried it give it a shot.

Just a though, what would look realy cool is hovering the real one, and flying the little one from inside whist over water!! That would look cool!

Great photos btw!

Bwellmaker,

I really like that idea. That would be very difficult but definitely impressive looking. I'm always looking for more challenging ideas so if you got em, shoot em my way.
