mcfast you can setup your heli to suit your flying style. for me i fly fai style with mild areobatics. I always set up my helis with a linear pitch curve and tweek the points to get my hover correct. my stratus is set up -7 low +2 middle and +10 top +or- a few degrees. total pitch range depends on your machine. If you want to do smooth percision aerobatics and hovering you wont do it hovering at 3\4 stick. my hover setup has the hover pitch range spread out for better stick resolution but my idle ups are for the most part linear. it all boils down to what you want the stick to fell like and what you want the heli to do . and yes idleups were around a lot longer then 3d. they make it possiable to do 3d Tom

Four Stroker, Jeff polisena,
Is there a reason for bringing up idle-up use by FAI in a group of, by a great majority, non-FAI type flyers ?

That kind of effore fails to serve the purpose of helping the original question in the context of this group.

and this
Idle-up preceeded the invention of 3D. I don't think idle-up invariably means 3D. Idle-up helps rolls a lot.
I fly hard freestyle and giving my advice as all others on 0 deg at half stick

[quote]The Raptor manual recommending a setup for hover at mid stick is wrong in my view. The Raptor is not a hover & putter around heli, it's a very capable 3D machine.

So I see now Thunder Tiger don't know Jack $&!# been hovering around a hole bunch at half stick learned from the beginning on a Raptor 50. First bird and have 4 in the hanger one is Airworf.

I initially set my scaler up for 0 at mid stick. I have flown 0 at mid stick ever since day one with helis, so without even thinking I set the MD530 up the same way I have been setting up my helis all along. I just now set it up for -3, +5, +10 and MAN what a difference. When bringing the heli up into a hover, she comes up very smoothly. Very scale-like. I had to raise my throttle curve value at mid stick, which is no surprise.

Of course, this is no secret as scale pilots have been doing this all along, it's just become second nature to set up helis for 0 at mid stick for me. It's going to take a couple tanks of fuel for me to be totally comfortable hovering right around midstick instead of 3/4 stick, but it's worth it for the scale look IMHO.

If you want to commit to that position, knock yourself out.
That may be your view but that's not what I said.

I have always set my helis to hover at mid stick, just like Daniel Jetson does!!

For me, every parameter is the same in all modes except the throttle curve; ie symmetrical pitch/curve, cyclic and rudder. This way, there's little to remember regardless of whether you're in idle up or throttle hold. Just go and fly
