Is it of any benefit for belt static discharge to run a grounding wire from the tailboom to the ESC when using a carbon fiber tail boom on the Logos? I expect one would have to remove the outer resin layer to make a good electical connection right?

Hey man

It's a good thing to connect your tailboom to your receiver negative. In most of the cases you get rid of your static issues. And correct, the CF surface has to be cut with some sanding sheet

I run carbon booms and PU belts in my Logos, no grounding. Graphit 33 coating on the outside of the belt eliminates static. Other coatings are available or some people rub the belt with a #2 soft pencil.

My two cents: During the warm humid weather in central California (when I first got my Logo 600) I got away with doing nothing, and had no problem with ESD. Then as the weather cooled and got a little dryer, I had to resort to the graphite on the belt trick, which worked for awhile. Then it got really cold and dry this winter, and I ended up putting metal bearings on the belt idler, grounding the bearing bolt to the boom, and grounding the boom to the negative side of the motor battery.

I'm not really sure if all that is necessary, or if just grounding the boom would do the trick. But after about 50 flights since the mods, and no ESD, I'm counting the problem solved .

If you can't find the Graphit33, simple graphite lube from Ace Hardware will do the trick. The bearing mod is not needed to stop the static issue, however is needed to stop the belt from tearing up the rear pulley.

I have not found any need to run ground wires on my 600, here in dry sunny So. Cal. the lube is enough by it's self.

I told you it was the future........
