i have a HIROBO SST EAGLE FREYA 60/70 with O.S. MAX-61 SX''WC'' Series engine with EX WC Engine Mount( 0414-716 ), now thinking of changing it to the 90sz engine. The tail boom, tail support and belt is for 90 size.

Queries:

1. Can i just pop in a 90 sz engine? will it fit with the current mount?
2. Which engine model? YS ST or OS engine? to fit in without any modification require?
3. The gear and pinion and it's Gear ratio?
4. Any other stuff to be replace?

Pls advise. tks.

Queries:

>>Answered in order

1. Can i just pop in a 90 sz engine? will it fit with the current mount?

>>The engine will fit the 404-716 mount. I think you mistyped the number of the one you have.

2. Which engine model? YS ST or OS engine? to fit in without any modification require?

>>Either will fit as is.

3. The gear and pinion and it's Gear ratio?

>>For 3D with YS 91ST, you'll want an 11t pinion and 93 t maingear to yield 8.45. The new YS SR and the OS engines will prefer the new 91 tooth maingear (414-454) to yield 8.27:1 for 3D. For an FAI set up, you'll want the 12 tooth pinion and 93 or 95 tooth maingear to yield 7.75 or 7.9 respectively.

4. Any other stuff to be replace?

>>You might want the EVO tank if indeed this is a pre-Evo model. 90's burn a lot of fuel. ALSO, your auto hub's loads are going to increase dramatically. The new blue EX auto sprague hub or at least the E3 hub is HIGHLY advised.

with my non evo freya 60 I've used the 12t pinion (i just put to 90 clutch bell in) used the wc3 fuel tank which is now fitted to the evo (i did this before the evo came out)
and used the std 60 main gear
you will find the main gear wears quite quickly but at 1/4 of the cost of the 90 gear i can live with it

the os90 c spec and sz fit straight into the mount
keep a good eye on the fuel clunk line if you use high nitro fuel

and yes in the picture its got a raptor tail fin as i broke the original test flying it for its former owner
its now got nhp carbon fins

thanks for the great replies. Opss..the engine mount nos is typed wrongly.. As for the EX and E3 hub, found out that the price difference is almost doubled! but functionally is there any much difference? Any consequences if i remain this original hub in the heli without changing out?

Higher the gear ratio the more power it's yeild? btw, i want both 3D and F3C flight. Possible to have a combination of both. if yes, which is the closest combination. and which engine is recommended.

And do i need to change the muffler then?

The pre-EX auto hubs will break bearings at irregular intervals depending on how hard you fly, engine smoothness, etc. Most of the time you hear the drivetrain slip in flight, and you can land w/o incident. That said, I have a friend who COMPLETELY destoyed a model when his hub failed at the wrong time, so just be advised. The EX hub costs a lot more because it uses a true sprague bearing. All of the other hubs use a Torrington.

If you are going to mix FAI and 3D, I suppose the 8.27 ratio on the YS SR or OS is the one to get.

You'll need a 90 sized muffler optimized for whatever engine you choose.

Hi Chong!

Glad to hear you are back flying the heli.
Where are you flying nowadays?
Perhaps we can go fly together at TBP.

BTW, if you are letting go the OS61 for cheap, let me know yeah.

Hello Viperviper,

Yes the engine will fit directly with all the mount supplied.

In my opinion, gear ratio really depends on the type of flying you do...if you are more into really hard stick banging 3D, then Dr.Ben's suggestion of 8.27:1 gear ratio is the one to have.

Also, if you are into mild 3D or smooth type 3D, 7.9:1 is OK...

I have found that the 7.9:1 is a good overall flying.

If you want to save some cost on the autohub, I suggest you get a heavy duty one way bearing from SKF to replace the HIROBO one-way bearing that they supply. The plastic autohub that I have on my FREYA is still in one piece after all this year and they are still in excellent condition.

I agree with the tank too. By the way, you might want to consider having a header tank as well, not so much for the real purpose, but I just use it to give you extra volume.

Hope that helps.

All you need is a clutch bell w/ 10 tooth pinion and either a 93 or 95 tooth maingear. Dead easy swap.
