Well, I left it charging for about 10-15 minutes when I noticed it. It hasnt puffed so far and when I switched it to lipo mode, it took like three seconds and it was done. Could I have damaged my pack? I havent tested it. Is it still useable.

If you don't have any way of checking the charge, then go fly it for a couple of minutes. Then put it back on the charger, and see what happens.

I would run it gently for a few minutes - perhaps 20% throttle - and soon.

If it is slightly over-voltage then this gets the cells back to a comfortable level quickly. Do this outside so that if you do start a fire you don't burn the house down.

Doesn't your charger give you voltage/mAh information?

yeah you could have...but you might be lucky too.

Did it get hot?
What input voltage settings was the charger set at?
What brand charger were you using?
Does it have a discharge cycle?
What was the voltage at when you started?
What voltage reading is the battery at now?

sorry for the duplicate questions...had to go check something.
Do what was suggested about 20% throttle and good luck!

Your next flight...low to the ground or safe Auto height...

Dont fly any pack if you dont know what condition it is in.... just my opinion.

Do you have a balancer of some sort? It sounds like you do not. I cant stress enough the importance of a good lipo charger and balancer - I know they are a little pricey, but worth it

You mentioned that you dont have a voltage tester. There are some 5 or 10 dollar ones available like at harbor freight or radio shack that have standard leads on them. You can use the probes to check the voltage of each cell through the balance taps. That way you would know for sure what each cell was sitting at.

Or, if you have a friend with a balancer, you could plug it into that and see what it shows.

I would just hate to hear of the pack puffing in your heli tomorrow and possibly flaming up.... in fact, I would leave that pack outside the house tonight just in case. Lipos are pretty safe until they arent

Anyway, if you dont have a good balancer and charger I highly recommend saving up for one when you can. Your packs will thank you

Sorry to hear about your experience, hopefully you caught it before any damage occurred.

I do have a balencer, and I just ran it up and the pack didnt get hot and it sounded great. Just waiting for it to finish charging. Should I run it lightly a couple time just to make sure?

I cant believe no'one has cought on here. was the pack run down? it most likley was if he was charging it. if he caught it after 10 -15 min and the amperage was not over 4 amps there should be nothing wrong with the pack at all. the only difference ni-mh mode has is how it ends the charge so if it was on there like 15 min it never go to that point. put the charger back on lipo finish the charge and go fly!! have fun

I was going to say, for 10 - 15 minutes, doubt very seriously if it ever knew the difference. Finish charging it in the Lipo mode at one C and use it.

The OP said that when he changed the mode to LiPo, it was done in about 3 seconds. I don't know what charger he uses, but my charger would only do that if it was already full.

I charged a battery on NiMH mode, but I left it for nearly two hours. When I came back it had taken 50% much more than its capacity and was puffed up and hot. I scrapped it and didn't try to use it.

I agree - 10 to 15 minutes is not going to cause any harm. Its OK to use a partially charged battery so I reckon fly it as usual. Rather discharge a potentially slightly overcharged battery.

Alright, the pack hasnt puffed and it still runs ok, but will I notice a difference in performance because I did this?

I really don't thinks so. If the pack hasn't puffed or overheated it should be fine. You caught it really quickly before damage was caused. I have an 1800 3S pack that puffs a bit now and then - still flies fine!

Just for the fire safety reasons, I bought a surplus metal ammo case to store my lipos. Charge in a LIPO sack, store in the metal case.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
