I have the run out procedure down pat, but lets talk balance. If the fan or tail hub is out, where do I remove material to balance?

Lets start with the fan. (Dr. Ben, are you out there?)

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave

Well in terms of the fan I tend to remove material by drilling a series of indentations (NOT holes!) between the fins at the heavy point. I usually drill at the top of the fan (the fin'd side) but I have drilled the other face in the past. It is a must to put the fan on the balancer and find the heaviest point before installing your gov magnet opposite to that, and then re-balance the fan again after that is completed.

As for the tail hub find the heavy side, thread a nut into the threads on that side and then gently grind the necessary material from that heavy side. The nut will clean the threads when you are done, but you should only take the minimum off here, as it should not be too far out to begin with.

Hope this helps

Cool vids bparro thanks for the link. Talking about how it is done can only explain it so far, the vids just take away any doubts.

And Dave, it is also good to see it being carried out on an actual MA fan just like you will have to do.

Like the cups of ice, never would have thought of that one

I have been doing it this way for 2 years now. I think the ice is more sensitive than other balancers.
