common sense r/c has a 2000 mah 2 cell for about $30. That's what I have on my 50. I get 3- 4 flights.

Where are you guys mounting the TP 3400? I run one of these on my Stratus but I thought it seemed pretty big for the 600
Ahhh it is ok... I use the same on on mine and it fits nicely under the front tray.

The TP 3400 just lacks a balance lead. I wont buy it anymore. No balance = no life span.

I think it is due to the fact that 2s lipos do not have problems charging correctly. I belive it is when we get up to 3s and up then we have to make sure they are properly balance. I am sure TP knew that it is not an issue or they would have put it on there as TP quality is on the line and they have proven to be great batteries.

TP 7.4 packs dont have a balance tap because their discharge rate is so low, no balancing is neaded.

My tp 3400 after a charge will only hold good voltage for about 3 flights. Only has about 20 cycles on it.

I bought a align 1900 after that. It gets about 6 flights. When my tp3400 was new I got about 12 flights.

My TP3400 worked a lot better after I changed the plug to a deans. I don't know if I had a bad plug or not but my charger never liked it. My charger automatically detects and sets the charge level and it would never go above 2 amps. It seemed like I only had half of the capacity. I ran it like this for a while and just thought it was normal for this lipo. A few weeks ago I changed the plug to a deans and now it charges at 3.4 amps every time The lipo is taking more MAH and its holding voltage better after flying with it too.

I only have 15-20 cycles on mine, but its running strong... for now.

I'm using a TP prolite 2100mAh That has balance leads and offers 15C discharge rate at 98gr weight. Discharge rate may have been low in the past but with the new 8717 history is changing.

Just don't get the rx packs. Get a prolite pack that suits your needs. I also never understood why they didn't include the balance cable on the rx series.

Tony

EDIT - The prolite series uses thick wires and I'm using 4mm gold connectors. Cycles full every time. Thats another thing I never liked on the rx series... the wire is just too thin for my taste.

Tony 15c for a rx pack? Thats a little over 30 amps and why it would potentially need a balance tap. You dont think thats a bit overkill? What are the max amps you've ever pulled with even the 8717's? So long as they're not stalled, they shouldnt pull anything more than 5-6 amps max.

This is my opinion only based on my own logging charts and past experience:

1. My total consumption per flight is between 231mAh (mild flying around) and 330mAH (stick banging) with 3 x 9351 servos. The average amp drawn during a flight are as follows:

220mAh idleing
1.5Amps once the bird spools up
2 amps average during flight
3-4 amps max during heavy load and even up to 7 amps peak during violent manuevers (wall of death for example)

I've been a hard necked supporter of Fromeco and lion batteries for a long time but they don't cope well with high loads. When I push my first flight (battery fully charged) really hard, I'm able to hit the 7.0V mark under max load. This is only an instant but I don't like the way the drop the voltage under load. If this happens on the first flight, you can imagine what is happening on the 4th... I've hit 6.48V more than once during flight. If you check fromeco's site, the 2.6A batterys are good for 4A continous... so they say...

SInce I installed the TP Lipo, no more voltage drops under heavy loads have been noticed.

Sure, many will say the fromecos are good enough but I'm a perfectionist and a geek. Its a piece of mind knowing that the battery I have installed will cope with anything I can throw at it. Besides, the TP2100 is only $49... whats the big deal?

Here are two charts of my first flight of the day. Guess which one is the fromeco battery (2600mAh) and which one is the Thunder Power (2100mAh)

EDIT (PS): The 8717 are known to draw up to the double of the 9351... can you imagine the charts?

FYI, the stats for size are way off on this lipo!! I was trying to get an extra lipo which was not as long my 2500s. I just got my 2100 EVORX today and its 112mm long not 74mm like it is listed on some sites. They are the same length and width as my 2500s

My next RX pack will be an Air thunder 2200 7.4.
I have some of their 3s lipos for my Trex 450 and they have been the best lipos I have owned.

Where can you get the TP prolite 7.4 2000's or 2100's? Checked all my usual places and can't find any. Biggest I can find is a 1320.

EDIT: Found some.

how do you guys monitor the lipo battery capacity on board the aircraft.
do you guys install some kind of monitoring device on your heli to warn you low voltage on your lipo. so to avoid over discharging and potentially damage the lipo.

i saw this lipo monitor device from readyheli called spektrum lipo monitor by western robotics. does any of you use it and whether if its worth while an investment.

There was talk on another thread about using 2S A123's for a RX battery, and using it without a regulator for cyclic servos or even tail servo that are rated for 6V. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It's actually a nice idea, and they have plenty of punch. Anyone try this?
