The time has come for a new heli, Why? Try to understand the truth, there is no why!
I have a Raptor 50 Nitro and a Raptor e550. I got a HBK2 because of it's small size so I could fly in the back yard and not have to drive to the field, I soon realized I have WAY MORE fun flying the HBK2 than either of the larger 2 Heli's.
The new bird will ideally be of a similar size as the HBK2 maybe a touch bigger.
I now know enough to get a bare bones kit and build on that with my preferred Gyro/RX/Servos etc.
So far the short list is (no particular order)
1. TRex 450 - Bit big but my LHS keeps everything Trex
2. Blade 400 - LHS keeps a lot of parts
3. Belt CP Carbon Edition with all the purple stuff - Not supported by my LHS - but would have some commonality of spares with my HBK2
4. Mini Titan - no parts at LHS - a lot of people recommend this heli.

Any suggestions / comments / advice ?

Thanks

hmmm, all good choices, parts readily available or wait for parts, that can go either way, another king would be nice, i would look at it from how much $$$ you're willing to put into it, parts, and happiness, the last 2 choices work for me, cause i don't have lots of $$$ to throw at it to begin with, my biggest hurdle is getting a good Tx, everything else much easier to handle...good luck with your choices

thrstmech,

Thanks for the input,
I am resigned to the fact that to get a good heli I will need to upgrade from the start, I learned this the hard way with the first 3, I tried to buy parts to a budget but each time was not happy with the parts and ended up going back and getting the good parts anyway so now I have paid out twice and have a lot of crap parts on my hands.
I am lucky in that I already have a JR9303 with Spektrum module so the TX is taken care of.

I do think that you can't wrong with any of those helis but I would recommend one of the 450 models, either the T-Rex or the Mini. That would give you a nice contrast to the King. I recently went through this same deal and decided on the Mini but I don't have a real good reason for doing so. Maybe it is because Fender made me but I can't be for sure. I have yet to get my Mini in the air but so far working on it has been nice. And since it and the TRex450 both use the same blades, servos, motors, etc. I can get some of the parts I need at the not-so-LHS.

You will find when you get into the trex or mini helis the days of upgrades and mods will be over. They are buy it, and fly it helis, so you can concentrate on set up and radio setting to fit your flying style. The up front cost is higher so you have to decide how you want to spend your time and money....

Building on Slider's point,

I've had some cheapy helis that needed alot of "service"

My TREX 450 will be a year old in May.

I've never crashed it or had to do a repair.

My point is "who carries parts?" might not be as big an issue
as you might think.

I have all the spares I need in my shop to rebuild a major crash, that way there is no waiting time for parts......

OK so we knock off the Blade 400 and the Belt due to quality.
Which leaves the Mini Titan and the Trex450

Still can't decide, I like them both.

LHS has bling for the TRex , I have no use for Bling, don't need it, can't afford it, can't fly well enough to make any difference, but you know how it is, its an addiction.

The 450 Se comes with all the bling on it, all metal tail and main rotor. It's not just bling it holds up better in a crash too...

No Tryan this is not a TRex forum, it is a forum of E-Sky fans that also have other helis and the other forums aren't as cool as ours, so we post everything here

The reasons I chose the Mini are slight but they are there. Some are

1) I never thought I would, but I like the plastic frames better.

2) If I would have gone with a trex, it would have been a 450S CF and it would have been a little more expensive.

3) Everybody has a trex!

4) I wanted to be more like Fender!

5) The tail on the Mini comes off one one piece. I don't think the trex does that but I could be wrong.

That all said, there is nothing wrong with a trex and some times it would be nice to have the same thing that everybody has and something that the LHS carries but so far I have no regrets.

it keeps bleeding into the Trex forum kinda, in one way or another we've made or suggested mods with the trex so it's unavoidable not making reference to it, i to have wondered 'bout what it would be like to have trex, have seen a few and i like what i see, but the before mentioned, the $$$ keeps me from taking the next step

So Tryan if I read your picture correctly, it says that the TRex is hunting down the King ... that or your TRex is looking to mount your King

I know it's not a Trex forum and yes tryan02 I know your comment was an inside joke , I posted here exactly for the reasons TJinGuy stated. You guys tend not to be all about the biggest and best $$$ can buy and appreciate that a HBK can be very enjoyable and flown well despite not being made of titanium with 700mm blades. I figured you all would relate to the advice I needed and judging from the reply that was a good call.
Thanks to everyone.
