No supervision and no education equals what? Common what? No rules no regs? No field officers? No safety board. No Roberts Rules? No meetings?
Yes to all above! (meaning none of it)

You might be surprised that some clubs do actually run this way, very happily over many years. Mainly the absence of those "safety officers" makes the atmosphere veeeeeeeeeery friendly...

TomRex,
You forget the WPB club field is bounded by the Florida Turnpike and i've been there when planks have crashed on the turnpike, they have also crashed on the interstate by Markham park, i don't think you have any idea about rules and regulations, i am vice pres of a club here in Punta Gorda, no rules no regs, just common sense, been a club for 10 years with NO Problems.
Just because you have an agenda about the New Hobby Shop, i'd like to know why you are so against this group. I probably know more about the ama than you will ever know. I have personal friends that work in Muncie at the ama, and I gave my son RCSHELI a life membership for X-mas.
The measured distance from Belvedere rd is 1500 ft and from jog rd is 700 ft. not 200. from where we fly.
Why don't you complain to the water authority and get us kicked off the premises. then we can take the 15-20 guys to dyer park and take over the heli pad, which already has all the foamy guys flying on it.
Ask Phil, or any of the bushwackers about HOtwings. they all know me.

I don't particularly like the site at the water plant, but it is another field to fly at. I can assure you safety is uppermost in our minds at all times. Ron

Please cancel my clearance, I have the field in sight. Got my RW Turbine Waiver, need lottery!

So exactly who is going to be responsible when one of the individuals stuffs their heli thru some cars windshield, hits a bystander, looses radio and goes thru someones house. What about the plank gassers seen there and google eyed traffic driving by. You have guys there that can't even change the water for coffee let alone be responsible flyers.

anybody remember Top Gun at the Polo field and what finally happened?

Why did you start this thread? Seems like you're just looking for an affirmation.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

When Tiger Woods gets the Dyer Park club moved to the other side of the interstate because of the flyers flying over his "childrens golf club" you will cry also.
I am amazed that someone hasn't been killed on the turnpike from crashs of RC aircraft, planks and helis.
When the turbine went down on the interstate at Markham Park , 911 was called with report of full scale jet crash. All kinds of response,
now if you fly beyond a certain point, cars with flashing lights come and escort you from the premises.

If you aren't flying at the Jog Road site, or trying to get members to fly safely, you have NO right to complain.

I am not going to continue this thread, after this post.

TomRex,

People like you are the ones that keep a lot of people from joining clubs.

I'm a pilot and I fly for the military and we dont even have rulebooks as big as most clubs.

It's not a full size aircraft, its an rc helicopter and they are operating them in a relatively safe manner from what I've read.

Let them do their thing and if they get in trouble they knew the risks.

Hey Tom,

Before I begin I want to say I am a member of the AMA.

But with that said, I usually don't fly at an official field. The AMA doesn't require you to. Thier bylaws basically state that as long as you follow proper safety rules and your aircraft has your name/AMA number on it, they will insure you.

My other thought is so what if they aren't AMA? If they have permission to fly, they aren't breaking any laws! Why do you call them Bogus? Simply because they didn't join the AMA? My bro-in-law flys withe me all the time and he never joined. What's wrong with that? How are they putting a major "black spot" on your "legitimate" club??? What makes your club more legitimate than thiers? Simply because yours is AMA? There is no law or rule requiring anyone to join the AMA....I chose to do so because I feel the benefits are worth it and I also fly planks occassionally at an AMA field.

In my personal opinion, I don't think they are doing anything wrong! Why do they bother you so much? Without sounding rude and I mean no disrespect, I think you should not be concerned with what they chose to do unless you feel they are being grossly unsafe and neglegent. In that case, report them to the local authorities.

Control Freak Asshats like the OP are the reason I will not have anything to do with a sanctioned club anymore.

I am an AMA member and support the hobby, just don't need a bunch of people telling me how to enjoy my hobby.

Heli's since 1980, AMA member for about 50% of that time.

I would not put up with a person like Tom for 2 seconds.

Many of us will not put up with someone trying to force their ways on us!

I guess there's no runway at this makeshift flying site... I see the BIRTH OF A HELI ONLY CLUB....

But for sure, the way to go about it is not slamming those flyers here. For example, I was coming home from work yesterday and saw a few guys flying their electric Trex600s and 500s on a field right by the side of the main road over a field. I pulled over, chatted with them. Of course they had no permission and I doubt that they even had MAAC (AMA fo Canada). What I did was chatted them up and invited them to fly at our HELI ONLY CLUB 2 streets away. Since it's off season they are more than welcome to fly there. Since they were flying electrics, they don't really need a formal club to join. But the invitation was well accepted and I mention to them the benefits of our heli club. They did just start in October 07 and they do go to the same LHS we do ... so of course I'll extend the invite.

Here's some of the benefits of some of our club members...

Although, it still does not exist... lol

I think it's good to join the AMA. However,if you don't fly alot or around many people it may not be cost effective. Plus you get to meet some great people that really know their stuff. You will always have those "stuck up" people no matter what hobby you choose. I like it because you don't get all the drunk people bugging you like some stupid bar. Imagine that..... a drunk heli pilot.....scary!

fwiw...

I am a long term member of the AMA...The AMA generally sucks, and I've had so many problems at several clubs with the sanctimonious and self important that I avoid AMA fields wherever I can...
I support the AMA solely because it affords a voice in front of another useless organization, the federal government...If we did not have the AMA, much as I dislike the politics, the FCC and or the epa would have legislated us out of existence long ago...

That said...GO BOOTLEGGERS!!!

I Have personally invited you to fly with us. Like hot wings said about 80% of us are AMA. The only guys that are not are the beginners with blade 400 or Trex-450. We have a good thing going there. We have permission from the Water management district and the field qualifies for an AMA field even though is not endorse yet. There is nothing to the left, right and back, in the front there is only one road that is about 300 yards from the flight line(plenty of space). Come and fly with us one Saturday and see first hand. We always welcome inputs from other people specially Safety issues. So stop by and say hello and tell us what you think of the place. By the way, we also fly at Dyers park and Markham park in occasions. But this field is almost exclusively for helis and I like it like that. Sincerely Double O.

My present mission is to solicit the AMA for information as how to corralle these fellows into the Public sanctioned club sites. They require fliers to have AMA membership in order to fly. When this goal is achieved I will rest easy along with the 200 members of the public clubs. My point of the entire thing is simply that we as a club have fought to have and preserve the sites we have and really don’t need any negative influences on the County Board of Commissioners. The only way for that to happen is to provide the correct information to the flyers there. It breaks my heart to find out that several legitimate AMA members have abandoned the Club meetings and Field to attend these Saturday sessions. There is safety in numbers and chaos in numbers also depending on the view point. The bottom line is the location is convenient for a few that may or may not cause problems for the nearby drivers and residents, fortunately most fly electric so noise is not the problem but this unsanctioned site will go to the way side in a matter of time. It would be nice for a philanthropist to donate about 30 acres for a Heli Only site but it won’t happen for sure when a car, house or person gets hit. The Hobby Shop Proprietor that started the thing will wind up getting a cease and desist order shortly leaving the fellows wishing they were where they should be when it goes down.
