Hey Tom,

Before I begin I want to say I am a member of the AMA.

But with that said, I usually don't fly at an official field. The AMA doesn't require you to. Thier bylaws basically state that as long as you follow proper safety rules and your aircraft has your name/AMA number on it, they will insure you.

My other thought is so what if they aren't AMA? If they have permission to fly, they aren't breaking any laws! Why do you call them Bogus? Simply because they didn't join the AMA? My bro-in-law flys withe me all the time and he never joined. What's wrong with that? How are they putting a major "black spot" on your "legitimate" club??? What makes your club more legitimate than thiers? Simply because yours is AMA? There is no law or rule requiring anyone to join the AMA....I chose to do so because I feel the benefits are worth it and I also fly planks occassionally at an AMA field.

In my personal opinion, I don't think they are doing anything wrong! Why do they bother you so much? Without sounding rude and I mean no disrespect, I think you should not be concerned with what they chose to do unless you feel they are being grossly unsafe and neglegent. In that case, report them to the local authorities.

Tom,

I know you for many years up at the field...

I honestly am somewhat amazed that your desire is to inflict something negative like getting them/me kicked off the field....

it just isnt cool...

as for field location..the current club location are horrible for helis...just not good...

so until a dedicated high quality heli field comes along , things like this will occur. For you to have the desire to exile them from the field just shows you as selfish and hurtful...

with that said..i do agree... a sanctioned better heli field would be great...but without that this will be the case and leave it alone...

I do not hold much regard for AMA sanctioned sites to begin with. There is one in Costa Mesa located right next to a school of some sort and walking trails. Its not unusual to have large groups of kids walking right at the flight line or across the flying field along with joggers and people walking their dogs.

That alone shows me there is not a whole lot of thought or real requirement to have a field sanctioned. I have seen better and safer unsanctioned sites.

Hmmmm ??? Sounds like someone wants a closed shop union, AKA AMA only allowed, no independent clubs.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Spanked in another section.
http://www.runryder.com/t415076p1/
My present mission is to solicit the AMA for information as how to corralle these fellows
The Hobby Shop Proprietor that started the thing will wind up getting a cease and desist order shortly leaving the fellows wishing they were where they should be when it goes down.
Sounds like you just want to be a bullie and threaten people who simply want to enjoy their hobby. Why did you post in the first place on the first thread? Were you hoping for a warm fuzzy affirmation to your thinking process or were you just trolling and why did you bump this two day old thread?

Maybe we should all call Tom and find out if the field where we fly is "legitimate" or if we are members of the bogus renegades. He can tell us when, where and how we fly and he will have perfect CONTROL.

Believe it or not Tom, south Florida is not the only crowded place in the country! Next time you visit Southern California, take a look around. The vast majority of guys here are not flying in clubs and not flying on AMA fields. We all seem to get along fine. There aren't arms and legs being chopped off, fights among the guys or any of that . . . it is amazing.

Can't you just go fly with your club and be happy.

If this is a troll by Tom, bad on me for taking the bait. He just keeps posting and posting this junk all over and it is getting old.

The current Brazilian equivalent to AMA is an entity called COBRA. It has similar safety and insurance policies, and most Brazilian modelers fly planks at COBRA-certified fields only.

However, modelers here in Rio are lucky enough to have permission to fly our birds at two outstanding non-COBRA sites: an ultralight flying club (which indeed is mostly heli-only but allows planks after the official sunset time when ultralights are grounded) and a farmland that is only 4km away from my home (lucky me).

In both sites, all flying abides by strict safety rules and flying activity has been going on for many years without incident.

Perhaps it has been sheer luck, but no-one has appeared as yet pointing a finger at us attempting to shut down the "bootleg clubs"!

Its people like Tom seeking attention on subjects he knows nothing about that gets so called sanctioned AMA fields moved or closed also when RC Bush pilots needs to find a new site because of you Tom they will not have the vote of your so called renegade heli people who will always come to defend why we need a field or the support of LHS who brings more pilots into hobby . It happens ask about the club at South Florida Fair Grounds that got pushed out and needed a place to fly or the club in Port St Lucie trust me it happens all the time

Wow! WE don't get it! You seem to be the one that stands out with your negative attitude to make sure no one gets to fly helis unless they do it your way! Your comment above pretty well confirms that you are more of a control freak using the theme of safety as way to promote your own personal agenda.

I'm an AMA member, fly at three different AMA sanctioned fields in two different states. I also fly my helis (nitro & elec) ANYWHERE I DEEM to be a safe place to fly them. As far as rebellious youth goes, maybe, but at 67 I guess I never got over it. I also own and fly a REAL airplane and there is more than enough regulation involved in doing that. And come to think about it a LOT LESS than all the regulations and restrictions some model clubs want to put on model flying

It's self-appointed do righters like you that spoil a lot of clubs with your dogmatic thinking(My way is the only way attitude)

I think I'll just fly in my back yard. If anyone wants to join me thats cool, I don't care what club your in, who you are or what you did. This is a hobby that is supposed to be fun. It's easy to get yourself in trouble and loose a bunch of good friends all for what? Trust me I know. When your on an AMA sancioned field you follow their rules, simple as that. Here in the CNY area the club near me is a beauty. Great guys so It's worth it to join. Lets keep it safe and enjoyable. Keep the hot doggin' in your own yard. (Yes I've done that too.) Take it from someone who screwed up. Happy flying!

You know, the funniest part of his quote was his self-righteous statement here:

"The Hobby Shop Proprietor that started the thing will wind up getting a cease and desist order shortly leaving the fellows wishing they were where they should be when it goes down."

LOL! Like that will ever happen! Unreal...and the actual sad part is he is the ONLY one that feels this way yet "we" don't get it? LOL!

This topic should be closed.

Great job Tom spinning us all up!

TomRex = TROLL

Had your fun Tom? Why don't you close this thread up, better yet you better just boycott RR since most of us our irresponsable, non-AMA, moronic heli flyers who will get it in the end Maybe we'll all miss you so much that we will be corralled into joining the AMA and following your rules. Seriously get over your self, you remind me why I have never joined any of these planker clubs. To me this hobby is about enjoying flying and making friends not all the political club BS, if people don't want to fly at your club who the hell are you to tell them they can't fly anywhere else? Go ahead and contact the AMA I'd love to see what they say.

your undeniable rebellious tendencies have come to pass and are a futile act; compliance to societal morality and ethics is inevitable, just a little educational something I thought I’d share with you young cocky rebellious types
Wow, You sound like the borg! Resistance is futile!

I have to agree that a lot of fields are not heli friendly, period.

I would have to say that our field is about as heli friendly as it gets. But.... We get all sorts of complaints from the plankers, flying to close to the run way, those things (kill), and on and on and on.

Yet, there was a guy flying a jet full out not more than ten feet off the ground directly out over the pits and none of the plankers said one word to him.

Every couple of weeks someone shouts heads up, because there is a planker coming right at us????????? Why, because if you watch the plankers fly, they are turned around and flying toward the pits. Yes, turned around.

In summary, I think it is a good thing to have an AMA card, and I support my local flying field. But,.... if some said hey, we have a heli only location and we have permission to fly there. I would be all over it. Who knows, maybe those guys will start there own club and not invite you. I think that would make everyone happy.

Old Guys Rule!
