has any one thought about putting a BEC on a tex 500? i was thinking of doing it to save run time and if anything goes wrong I still have servo power. Do you think it will be bad for hard 3d?

I assume you're talking about a BEC with lipo pack for the electronics alone, like the TRex 600. It can be done but the added weight may have make the heli a little heavier.

If you had a seperate lipo for the rx, you would need a regulator, not a BEC. I'm using a SportBEC with my Castle 45HV running 8S.

Thats all a BEC is, a regulator, the only differance is they are designed for a number of differant voltage inputs, compared to a RX pack regulator which is more commonly 7.4v input, thus the name Battery Elimination Circuit, allowing you to hook to your main pack instead of flying a RX pack. Be careful when looking for a BEC, most are linear, which means the more voltage input, the less amps output. The SportBEC that beeflyer2 is talking about is a good choice, its non-linear with a constant 3.5amp output, and is switchable between 5v and 6v to accomodate your gyro voltage. Spektrum makes a small inline regulator for your 4.8v gyro set up, so you can run 6v cyclic.

Im running an 85HV with a CC BEC in my 500, it all fits on the bottom tray inside the heli. Pretty clean look IMO...

Its What I dont Say You Should Be Worried About...

I am running an Align BEC with a small GWS 2100mah 7.4 on the bottom tray. I have an Align 100a ESC with a Scorpion 3026 1900kv on 12t at 85% TC. It all runs cool and strong. The added weight is negligible. Performance is awesome.

Fly hard, have fun and take it home in one piece...
