After work the wind was blowing about 5mph and it was just not a good time to fly. Then about an hour later the wind stopped. So I grabbed the king, and the camera, and worked on some more hover challenge stuff. I had some nice hovers going but never on video. It seems that when I try to aim for a point, everything goes to crap. If I just let my pick a place and hold it there, it does great. Anyhow about 2 minutes into the second pack the wind came up and got kinda bad. Since I was flying without TG, I immediately tried to set it down and the landing was hard but everything was fine. So I killed the camera and practiced some wind flying. That is when almost lost the heli. I was facing away from the wind and my heli was slowly going further and further from me as I tried to bring it back. On top of the wind was the fact that the sun had set and I was loosing light. Before I could set the heli down it had gotten so far way that I could no longer see which way it was facing against the treed background. So I just slowly cut the throttle and hoped for the best. The heli sat down and I didn't hear any bad noises but apparently it was leaning way forward and I don't know how it didn't hit the main blades on the ground. So everything ended up fine but man I hate wind. I can't wait until I can fly in it and then maybe I will appreciate it more.

TJ: Glad everything turned out OK for you.

I'm no wind expert, but when I have a choice, I fly facing the wind.

That helps me.

flew yesterday in mild wind, got some good FF in, but the wind did most of the work for me when turning around, then i was feeling pretty good 'til...

came in for landing and a gust picked it up a bit putting it into the curb, feathering shaft ok, flybar ok, xtreme button got hit, lost the retaining screw for it, button flew 'bout 10' away, the blades took most of the impact

Well, now you've got a cool new job lined up.

You can afford a little accident.

yesterday i was facing the wind too... i'm no expert at this... actually i'm still learning the basic orientations, i'm learning side in for now. but as you can see in this video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=GyIsWRQ-yRs

look at the trees behind it, they're being crazly taken away by the wind. when you see my hbk2 flying into the air or going out for a foward flight ride it's the wind causing it, not me... i had to use idle up to mantain control of it.

but like MMike said, here in Portugal windy days is a rare occasion and when there is that kind of strong wind i just love it and will face it. =) if there were strong winds everyday i'm sure i would hate it
