I have a 72mhz JR 6202 transmitter. on the back it said, "72.890" on the crystal holder "thingy". My receiver crystal - the same. both on channel 55. I see receivers "same JR receiver" with different 72.000 numbers. does it matter? I didn't notice but is channel 55 specific to 72.890?

If I upgrade my transmitter to one of those selectable frequency - can I still use my receivers? I beleive it's PPM. what about those 2.4ghz transmitter - are the receivers specific or is it backwards compatable to my old receivers? Finally, with 2.4 ghz - do I need to frequency check with others at my field?

Your transmitter will only transmit on channel 55. If you were to get another reciever, you would need to have one on channel 55 to work. That is the frequency band of channel 55.
There is a low band and a high band, you are on high band. If you get another receiver on high band then you could simply change the crystal to channel 55 and your good to go.
2.4 transmitter's you can bind to any 2.4 receiver providing they are the same make. ie: jr/spektrum or futuba

Quick...here comes my wife....hide that new Heli !!!!

What is the relationship between JR and Spektrum. Are they the same company? Is Spektrum just the budget line of JR? Is one a spinoff? Do they just share protocols? Can any 2.4 JR Tx work with a Spektrum Rx and vice versa?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Same CO. same protocol DSM2 they all bind to all receivers from jr/Spektrum

EDIT:
original DX6 transmitter DSM1 cannot run a dsm2 receiver DX6-I can, and of course a 6ch trans cant run a 7 or 9 channel rec but a x9303 dsm2 can run an ar6000 rec DSM1

That only applies to Futaba recievers, and only those marked as such.

JR Receivers are center tuned to the band, you can put any legal channel in them.
