Botton line here..
The Futaba Service Just Plain SUCKS!

I have been through this a few times myself...JR's Service Center is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than Futaba's...

in fact I sent an AR7000 receiver in to be checked 2 weeks ago...they couldn't find it when it was received so they just sent me a brand new one...

Talk about service

I am HUGE fan of the JR service center...and I believe Excellent Customer service is what makes LOYAL customers loyal...no matter what business you're in....I still don't understand why Futaba doesn't understand that

There is alot of hit and miss to it. I sent in 15 9ch rx's about a year ago. Their age ranged from 2 or 3 years old to a few that were at least 15 years old. I wanted them all tuned/vibration tested, and the antenna's replaced. I was getting them ready to sell here on RR, and I fealt better knowing that who ever bought them from me was getting a recently serviced item. The complete bill for all of them was less than $200.00, and that included a few new cases and all new antenna's. Seemed very reasonable to me.

For servo's, I won't even send them in unless it is a failure within the waruntee period. I have two reasons for this. One is they cost too much to fix most of the time, and two is that I have had more than a few repaired servo's give up the ghost within a few flights of being repaired. Anything other than a stripped gear and I file them in the little green file cabinet.

They loose your Rx?! I would not exactly tag that with 'service'... Send a replacement Rx is the least they can do?

I at one time had considered sending an old truck receiver in until I looked on their website where it showed how you pay for shipping in and out plus a base fee for them just to look at it. That's not even counting the amount/time to repair it. I'd like to transfer over to JR/Spektrum since that's what MOST people around me are using....

Just too expensive for me right now.

I've had the same bad service from hobby services (which is a branch of hobbico that also owns great planes, tower hobbies and several other companies).

I sent in a gy502 that reset itself to factory defaults twice and got a bill for $50 (which i wouldn't care about paying if they fixed it).

I was charged $50 for the following

top case replacement (didn't know anything was wrong with it)
sensor label replacement (wtf?)
test and reset to factory defaults (it reset itself twice, why do i need them to do it again and charge me for it).

so i called them and talked with a tech and then a manager. I was told that their testing could not provide a conclusive answer and they didn't really beleive me about resetting itself.

To make a long story short, I switched to JR totally because of this

I recently sent in 2 ar7000 receivers to the horizon service center because the a couple of antennas got pulled off of the boards. Totally 100% my fault and i expected to pay for repairs. 3 weeks later, I get 2 brand new ar7000's off the brown truck at no charge what so ever. On the invoice, it said. "replaced for free in the name of good customer service" I was floored. I'm all for horizon and JR and will never give hobbico or futaba the time of day again

Is hobby services the Hobbico Futaba service center in Illinois?
You may have, from time to time, seen people refer to Great Planes, Hobbico, Tower Hobbies, and Hobby Services as "The Evil Empire".

Hobby Services is the product support arm of the Evil Empire. They are responsible for supporting the following product lines:

· AquaCraft
· Carl Goldberg Products
· Coverite
· DuraPlane
· DuraTrax
· Dynaflite
· FlyZone
· Fuji Engines
· Futaba
· GMS Engines
· GloBee
· Great Planes
· Heli-Max
· Hobbico
· Kontronik
· Lanier RC
· NexSTAR
· O.S. Engines
· SuperTigre
· Top Flite
· Tower Hobbies
· U.S. AirCore

If you have a warranty problem, or need service on one of the above products, Hobby Services is where it goes.

I used Hobby Services several years back when I had some OS32 SX-H motors blow up during their warranty period. Replacement under warranty was never a problem, and I never had an issue with them. When my OS 50 SX-H ingested most of the clutch bell and lining from a Sceadu EVO crash, Hobby Services offered to sell me a new OS 50 SX-H for about $100, instead of repairing the dead one, as repair costs would have been close to that of a new motor.

I've seen quite a few posts over the past year that seem to indicate that Hobby Services is no longer the friendly, customer oriented operation that it used to be. That's sad, as the products they support are some of the better known "names" in the business.

On the other hand, the Horizon Service Center has provided top-notch scustomer service over the years, and it appears they continue to do so. They took care of my X9303 last fall when it suddenly died, and have updated my Spektrum receivers at no cost when asked to update. I recently sent them three six-year old JR8231s to have some repairs performed. The jury is still out on how they'll handle those three servos as they are still in the mail on their way to them. I'm hoping they don't let me down.

Everyone that has a problem about Futaba Service in North America should send an email or letter to Futaba Japan. If they receive a few hundred complaints directly then something may be done.

I haven't been able to find a Japanese email contact yet but I have a friend that can read/speak Japanese and am waiting to see if he can find an one on the Japanese Futaba site.

If anyone has one please post it here.

Cheers.

I sent a GY401 to Futaba service center for repair about 4 months ago, and they quoted $189 for repair but with a 40% customer discount i.e. $113 total. So, I told them to toss it away. I sent a JR8231 servo to Horizon Hobby for repair, and they sent me a brand new JR8231 servo at no cost. My hats down to Horizon Hobby.

By reading the posts here and in the jr forum i get the feeling that horrizon has to keep there customers happier because of all the failures with there equipment, I rather take my chances with futaba because it seems to hold up better and less problems then jr. I did have a 9202 servo bad out of the box about 10 years ago, replaced free. I rather pay for a repair that I caused in a crash, then get a free part that caused the crash. Ok wait a minute ok flame suit on.

The service center has specific diagnostics that are run on servos that can detect bad motors before you end up with a pile of crash parts. I've sent servos in and had one show up as bad as well that "seemed" to work fine. I have no reason to question their integrity in this matter. 200 flights is a lot on a t/r servo.

If you were so certain that 9254 was fine, why did you send it in? Furthermore, if you believe that you know more about the motor diagnostics and test parameters than the service center WRT to what is working "fine", then you shouldn't have sent it in either. The purpose of a check is to find a problem BEFORE it happens. Geezuz, you sent the servo in and asked them to do their job, they did it, and you fault them for it.
