slider... what is the point in posting this here? like... we know rc helicopters are toys but are toys that can be fatal... anyway going to the trex 500 as first helicopter might just be crazy... i started with a walkera 5G4 coaxial, and i made that same mistake he made turning off the TX first but you can't just go advanced heli all the way. i changed from walkera 5g4 to belt cp but i studied very well all safety and setup points.

anyway that injury looks serious =S

I tell you I am just not that scared of my HBK2. I mean the only time I think about it is when I am looking inline with the spinning blades. I like my eyes. I mean I know it can be dangerous but I guess it just doesn't seem real until something happens. Now that picture is a bad deal. It does make me think about my heli more but it really makes me more scared of the big helis like my friends Raptor 50. That thing scares the crap out of me. I literally put my life in his hands when he is flying it. If something happened, someone could die over it.

Anyhow it always good to keep the non-toy idea in our mind while we fly or setup our helis.

One side point...

Guys, is this right?

If my radio fails at any point as my heli is operational,

The motor will default to where it was at "binding".

Hopefully shut down.

The better radios like the PCM futabas and all the 2.4ghz stuff will not do bad things when the signal from the radio is lost. I mean it will probably crash but it won't go full throttle or anything. With the stock radio, or many others, the rx just freaks out and picks a random place for all the servos and esc. That can be super dangerous. This can also break your heli, did that once.

Feels good to be back on heAr, again...? AND, Yr right on the money too Slider. I read AOPA, Flying, EAA Sport Pilot, UltraFlight, and one other one Ann just got about planes falling out of the sky. I have to wait till she's done wth it, to read it too. It's the high time pilot that makes the bigest mistakes. Airline pilots with 4,000 8,000, evan 12,000 hrs. in thier log books, get into thier GA, and make some real stupid mistakes, sometimes. They get so relaxed, after tht many hrs. they tend to let thAre guard down. It's no differance with us RC Pilots. Sooooo, dont get caught with yr pants-down guys. It Dose Happen....! It could of taken the meat right down to the bone, before he had time to say "Oh-S3$%T" The older we get,and the more Hrs. we have in out log books, the more likely it could happen to us..................! Dont want to hurt yr feelings, but I like Ol Jerry's, point better........! Nothin, like 4 blades, spinning, right in front of yr nose, to make ya think ?.............. "Spinning Flesh Cutting Saw"......Not only will that leave a mark, but it will hurt in the morning...............?

I think it does matter Neon.

If I have a radio problem of any kind, It matters! The motor NEEDS TO SHUT DOWN.

Ask the guy that got hurt if it matters.

When you bind the DX7, you need to have the throttle all the way down.

Mike,
Here is the fail safe setup copied right from the online manual on page 18. I guess it does make a difference.....

SmartSafe:
• Prevents unintentional electric motor response on start-up.
• Eliminates the possibility of overdriving servos on start-up.
• Establishes low-throttle failsafe if the RF signal is lost.
• Maintains last-commanded control surface position in the event of RF link interruption.
Note: Fail-safe positions are stored via the stick and switch positions on the transmitter during
binding.
