Hover the Lama in front of your nose (nose in) , and then hover the sim "in front of your nose" (nose in). See which one concerns you more about moving the right stick the wrong way.
Well put. I'm quite comfortable with nose-in in the sim. The first time I tried it on the Lama I was quite surprised how much adrenaline showed up out of nowhere. Up to that point, I was started to get bored of flying it because it so easy. Once I pushed through first round of panic, the SIM training kicked in and now the Lama is a piece of cake in all orientations.

train
Train like you fly. I guarantee you will not fly your king in nose in as easily as the lama. I personally dont have a lama, but from what ive seen its cake in any orientation. Check out tryans video when he put the control on the deck and walks behind it and grabs the tail. Put some training gear on the king and go do it. Its hard at first. It goes all over the place. After struggling for a week a couple of times a day it happened. I relaxed. Im still all over but not that bad and my heart doesnt beat hard anymore. Just my 2 cents. Whats your rating Jerry?

You're right!
But - when I practice with the Lama I hover nose in and move left and back, right and back, move forward, backward and in short just "exercise" basic nose in movements. It's repetition that gets you familiar for the "real deal".

For even more effect I'll hover nose and and randomly bump the sticks and prctice recovery from a nose in to a nose in position.

I'm not saying that if you can hover a Lama you can hover a King, just the time spent with the Lama can save your King's a$$ should a gust of wind suddenly twist you 'round to an unfamiliar position.
Whats your rating Jerry?
IT (Info Tech) now. Started off as a TT (Telephone Tech). Back in the day remote Coast Guard Life Saving Stations had to maintain their own phone connections if the local phone company didn't have anything out their way, so the CG had it's own crews that maintained their own poles and lines. Technology eventually converted those copper lines to microwave shots, and as time went on the service had less and less use for people who did what we did - so they rolled us (many of us kicking and screaming) into the computer world.

Too bad too. Many of those remote CG stations were not far from the summer homes of the "rich and famous". The top of one particular CG telephone pole in California gave an excellent vantage point to view Bo Derek (you young guys can Google her name) sunbathing in the buff if you had a good pair of binoculars.

I agree
I agree that if you are using it to get to the next level, then yes its a great training tool. It takes all of the hovering out of it and lets you push it around. Why not get a co pilot? I have heard that they work great. I have considered one myself. I happened upon a video one time and it was pretty nice. Let go of the sticks and she will hover herself. There was some drift though. I think any pilot wpould be able to handle a little drift. It wasnt much drift and it was just blowing backward a little.

I used to have a FMA Co-Pilot. Used it on planks and it worked great. When I ventured into nitro helis I stuck it on the tail of my Nexus 30 and sure enough - let go of the sticks and she'd go into a stable hover.

Not sure it would fit on the King w/o making it tail heavy though.

Sold my Nexus 30...

My Story:
When I was stationed in Michigan I hooked up with a fellow who had been into helis forever. I was flying planks and he convinced me to get a heli...said he would train me. I had the Co-Pilot on my planks but had learned to fly by then so I took it off and stuck it on my heli.

Welp, me and that fellow had a major falling out - and I that ended the heli training. I didn' thave enough nerve at that point to fly it on my own so I sold it and went back to planks, until recently when I got the King.

Neon: See http://www.fmadirect.com/products.htm?cat=20&nid=6
for info on the Co-Pilot. I can vouch for the fact that they work well on planks as I had it on my planes for quiote a while. I could pout the plane in the most god-awful situation and just take my hand off the sticks to see it recover and be back in level flight in maybe 3 sec max. Just used it for a short time onthe heli, but it would fly the thing in a level hover hands-off. It does appear to be too big for most e-helis though.

Good move.

Learning on a Nexus 30 in a vacuum is tough.

I can tell you that By my own experience.

co pilot
It needs to be mounted where it can see the horizon. It also says it doesnt work for ccpm helis. I could mount it on the Raptor.

Jerry, you are to much.......? See which one concerns you more about moving the right stick the wrong way. That has got to be the best point made since I triped onto RR ! Ya gotta train them "Brain-Cells", and its funny how the hands can start shakeing when it's "spinning" right in front of yr face......................? Kinda makes the "Me-Ma" not seem so harsh, after all !

I only have one gyro, but I'd like to see someone - just for giggles - put a gyro on the tail and the fore/aft and port/starboard cyclic.

Just to see what would happen. Likely it would all be to heavy for a e-Heli though.

And you there Tex DAR:
Get the cats out of the pool, put some drawers on and polish up them musical skills: Write / Record us a e-heli thrashers/crashers theme song!

"Oh Boy"......This is going to be fun. Good choice of songs too ! Writing has always been eazy for me. All you do is, Time It, Ryme It, and give it a hook. You guys got some good lines to pick threw already. I could evan shoot a You Tube Vid. of our RR Song. I'll make it so all Heli Pilots can use it on here. Why would I turn down a chance to be cool on all RR posts. "But" It will come from the guys-&-gals from "The HBK-2 Gang"........................OK ? Heres the title, "Hot Rod Lectric-Heli", maby........? Just think,if I still had my show on the road? I could go to all the R/C Swap-Fests, and play OUR Song..................You guys started this "Reamber"
