Heya all, Got a trex 450XL and since I did not assemble this helo though I have the smaller ones and putting a smaller belt drive micro just wanted to know which is easier to do. I am wanting to put a 9650 servo on my tail is it easier to take the boom off by removing it from the frame or taking the tail rotor off? I need to slide the new servo mounts on it I am thinking it would be easier to take it out of the frame. My only concern is that it is set up great right now and I am afraid I won't get the belt tension correct when I put it back on. Or should I just wait until I have a boom strike and have to take it off anyway. Thanks Gene

On the XL, I'd remove the tail, like you said if you want to keep belt tension. The metal SE tail is too painful to disassemble.

That said, you need to learn to set your belt tension, you do! and pulling the boom from the frame, you don't need to remove the tail support bracket to put the servo brackets on.

You can mount the 9650 to the existing mounts- that's what I'd do.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Thanks for the quick response, I had thought about using the existing brackets but it would only be held on by 2 screws 1 on each side with the new brackets it would be secured by 4 screws. Your right I need to learn how to set it but i just figured why mess with perfection! lol
Think I will switch it out from the frame then. Thanks Gene

do you already have a 9650 because if you dont, get a 9257 instead. they are the same price and the 9257 is a far superior tail servo.

600N 55HZ/SAB-55 600V's
700N 91HZ/SB-20 690V2 V's
90SG 91HZ/SB-20 710V2 V's

LMT already have the 9650 been sitting on my table for awhile, I had gotten it new awhile ago and got a great deal on it. Just have not gotten around to putting it on as I have had other helo's I have just been trying to keep up! Thanks for the input I will keep that in mind if I decide to upgrade another one.
