The setup I have now on my Logo 10 provides tons of power for 8 min flights while putting back 2950 into a 6S3700 pack. Having two packs I can fly one, get a tank on the nitro heli, fly another pack, and then the first pack will be done charging. The best of both worlds. The gearing is the key to long flight times. My first setup provided only 5 1/2 min flights, and a borderline overheated ESC. Once the right gear ratio was arrived at everything runs cool and has great power with long flight times. If I did use a 5000 pack, it would be heavy, but I could get 10 mins easy, and still have good power. I have really been thinking about going A123, but I don't really know enough about it to make that call. Maybe I should do some homework....

As fergus said, yep, pull them out and slap 'em on the super fast charge. The packs actually cool down while being charged in 15 mins (assuming your application made them heat up while in use).

the A123's acctually work better warmed up, I heat my packs up before I fly them. during these cold months you can really notice a diffence.

We still have several feet of snow here and we warm our lipos as well. We even wrap our reciever lipo pack on the 600s with hand warmers while in flight. Guess I need to try a new A123 pak.

Hi All,

I get 6 minutes of mild 3D with my Swift with 550 blades.

If I could, I'd fly my 600N all the time, but truth be told, I got 380 flights on my Swift last year at the soccer fields while I only got 120 flights on my 600N at the club field.

That's why I built a 600E this year. I'm hoping to get 6 minutes of mild 3D with it. I'm using 8S FP4270 mah batteries.

Electric vs nitro??? Electric wins because you can fly them more places.

Keep 'em flying.

There's also the V-Bar which I gather adds 10-20% flight time. That would mean more than 10 minutes of sports-flying for me, on a logo 600 with 9s2p A123 batteries. Perhaps 12-13 minutes if I went for LiPos instead. Currently getting 8-9 minutes of sports flying. I don't (can't) do 3d.

Yeah right

For the cost of a V-Bar you could buy another heli and double your flight time that way!

how come everytime I see a nitro/electric "discussion"...all the nitro guys say...."electric sucks because you have to charge batts and with nitro I can fly and refuel and fly all day"....but they dont mention their RX packs....from what I've been reading you only get 6 or 7 flights(max) out of an RX pack then you have to recharge that(or bring more)....so you have all the nitro issues plus battery issues also,so you actually CANT just fly and refuel all day...at one point you must either recharge or replace the RX pack....dont get me wrong I love nitro's and plan on getting one eventually...they look/sound soooo AWESOME........but we dont seem to be getting the full story

In the year that I've been in this hobby battery/charger technology has really evolved quickly....we now have batts(lipo) that can be charged at 2 and 3C(safely,without damage)...and discharged till the heli wont fly....safe balance chargers....A123 is really helping too, once they get the weight down, look out....what will the next year bring??????...all I know is no matter what you fly...its a good time to be flying...this hobby is the most fun, addicting thing,I have ever done in my life....and I'll fly till I cant hold a TX or see the heli...which ever comes first

HEAR HEAR! This was not a nitro VS electric topic. It was electric flight times. As far as I'm concerned there is no comparison or war, just fly what you have and or prefer! For more years than I would like to admit I have flown fuel power aircraft and as of February of this year I sold the last of my nito stuff I am all electric now. This is my personal preference. I personally think electric is the future, but will fly with anyone cuz flyin is flyin

Lithium, nitro, gas, jetA I don't care if it runs on popcorn just fly.

fenderstrat you are a little behind on the times. We use lithium ion rx batteries now and I personally get 12-18 flights per pack on all helis. That alone is a full day, but with multiple helis with that many flights each it's a no-brainer. Then it's only one small quick battery charge and I'm ready for the next day (don't even have to take the battery out of the bird. Takes about 5 seconds to start charging. Nitro=all day long baby! lol

What size rec pack are you using 12-18 flights?? Most are using 1200-1800MAh. I use 2s2p 2200MAh lipo for rec pack and get 6-8, maybe 9 flights per charge if I wait until its in the red.
I too was hard core fuel you WILL come around , you did with rec packs
I also don't understand attacking fenderstrat for flying electric its his choice, do you really care as long as he flies? Are you a Heli Raciest I will fly with anyone, Well except for those nitro guys who put the fruity smells in there fuel makes me sneeze

LOL...I pride myself on trying to keep up to date DAILY...I had just read a few posts(I'll find them if I need to)where guys using the new 8717 servos were saying they are really power hungry and they were getting 5 or 6 flights per battery..if that is the case then SOMETIME during the day you must recharge or switch batteries..thats all I'm saying...that point is almost NEVER brought up in the nitro/electric discussion........I'm not trying to turn this into a nitro/electric thing...just bringing up a valid point...this discussion will go on forever, and both sides have their pro's and cons...me personally...I will have both one day as the power and sound of nitro is AWESOME...but the ability to step out my back door and virtually fly any time(8am before work) I have 10 min is equally awesome....as already said...anyone that flys is cool with me....so I see no point in wasting time going back and forth...HAPPY FLYING .....FENDER

I did see a neat little dynamo system for IC-helicopters, as a backup to a battery system. So if you wanted to fly all day on fuel only, then you could!

Thats why I have electrics...
the power and sound of nitro is AWESOME
And that is why I have nitro's, plus the long flight times

not trying to upset anyone. Yes, 8717's are power hungry, but very few of us use them. I use high speed Futaba's, Fromeco 2600's and 5200's with Arizona regulator. I guarantee you will get a lot more than 6 flights with this setup. Most of us fly with similar setups. Anyway, Nitro still rulz! lol.
