Hi guys,

my engine had a seizure this weekend and locked up. No idea what it can be. I bought it used so anything could have happened.

Any tips or easy step by step procedure I can use to pull the engine out?

Thanks.

Seizure is normally caused by running lean for whatever reason.

If you bought it second hand there might be a chance the last owner did a frame mod that will allow the engine to come out in five min’s but otherwise take the top frame assembly off complete with main shaft for starters.

Frame Mod
Look at the fan shroud front mount, if the frame is cut away and the mount is missing it's had the Mod, all you need do then is release the front frame from the base and the rear frame from the top frame and pull the motor out with the base and rear frames still connected.
Good Luck

The funny thing is that the engine was in general running rich...

I have no idea how this happened and until I see the engine's insides there is no way to determine what went wrong.

I was finally getting the needles right, coming from the rich side...

Oh well... At least I am becoming an expert on flame out autos... I can remember at least 5 on the last couple of months, with no harm done. Touch wood!

hi Jack
do you run a Z-RC CNC manifold with teflon gaskets , well worth the money and a good guarantee to stop intake leaks , the stock plastic manifold can warp at running temp and cause a lean run , dana

Al has them

and daves

Nope. I was going to add one as soon as I managed to get the bird going, which ended up never happening because of various mechanical failures.

I am sending the engine to Al and will ask him to add the mount.

I looked at the plug and it still looked slightly on the rich side, though...

Dana is right about the aluminium insulator, I won’t run a Gasser without one, I also fit V coils on the exhaust manifold, once the muffler bolts are tightened after the first warm up there tight forever. Trying to learn the art of tuning a gasser is bad enough without having to worry about things working lose in midair.
