Finished my new Mini last week, maiden flight last Monday ended with disaster. For some reason the ESC cut power to the motor completely, even though i have it set to "soft cut-off." I was taking it nice and easy and just decided to flip it over and hover inverted then about 10 seconds into the hover… BAM! It fell from about 40ft. Only damage was one stock blade, the tail boom, and one upper mixing arm. Amazing! I think the battery was the culprit, they haven’t been used since last year. Got it back together last night and flew it twice this morning, now taking it extra easy. I want three more successful flights then i will start ringing it out. So far it's flying great.

Setup:
Mini Titan stock kit
Medusa 28-32-3400
CC Phoenix 35A ESC
Flight Power 2150MAH
JR 7703D Gyro w/ 3400G servo
Three HS-65HB
JR 790 PCM Rx
Controlled by my 9303

Couple things contributing to ESC cut-out with the CC Phoenix:

You really must set the current limiting to "disable"- even though you weren't punching the pitch when it cut out- it sensed over-current and shut down the ESC. The Medusa motor you are flying (I fly the same motor in a Trex 450) is not ultra efficient, not too bad, but can pull some amps. The stock MT wood blades, for some reason, really eat up the power- so you would do well to switch to something like Align Pro Woodies, or decent carbon fiber blades.

That should resolve the cutout issues. Of course could have been the battery, but generally the ESC will give a soft "pulse" when the voltage drops low, unless it drops very suddenly as with a bad pack.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

I've had current limiting set to "disable" since the day i bought it. I'm almost sure it was the battery. When i got home i put it on a 2 amp discharge and it kicked off at just over 100mah. These batteries have been in storage for about 10 months.

Upgrade
The minititan is incredible addition to the engine, batteries, etc., will only change the rotor hub for a G-force and flies incredible and I imagine it will be as the SE.

I also decided by the minititan E325 and have flown aling the 450SE

Greetings

Hmm, okay,
What radio/receiver are you running? Is there a ferrite ring? Sounds like it still could be a glitch of some sort. I am still stubbornly flying a PPM receiver, it sometimes glitches and the motor will blip off for a moment, then come back. I need to fool with antenna placement, but its not my primary ship and I don't fiddle too much with it. Stupid, I know. DX7 is in the mail.

Try lubing the belt if you don't already.

Yes, the lipo could be bad: how did you store it- fully charged? Try cycling it on the charger a couple times.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Try putting the ESC in the open where it gets lots of airflow. Might be overheating. I have mine mounted where yours is in the pics, buts its the stock Ace 40A. Works fine.

Oops, forgot to list the Rx. Its a JR 790 PCM. I flew it twice this morning with my other two packs. They all seem a little slugish. I don't remember what charge they had when i stored them. I'm cycling them right now. What do you lube the belt with? I lubed all the shafts with silicone oil.

No lipo will ever benifit from cycling. If they are not stored correctly for long periods of time, this will diminish the packs.

The cycling suggestion was to test their capacity not to "restore" them. But you never know.

Lube the belt with silicone spray, or the silicone oil- the general idea is to reduce static electricity generated by the belt/pulleys, thereby fewer discharges. Not saying for certain that you are having that problem but no harm done.

Well, the weather hasn't cooperated and i won't be able to put the carbons on it and fly before i leave for the airforce monday. It will be around July before i get another chance to fly the boys.

that gyro is just waiting to be knocked of its perch ... you will know what i mean once you have had a few crashes with the mini T . the flybar has lots of play on it compared to any other 325 size heli .

Blackrat is right on the gyro, also the tail servo is on the wrong side too for the same reason. Ask me how I know.

BTW what paint did you use on the canopy? Looks quite visible.

Seems like inside the frame, in the back is a great place for the gyro. It's well protected and there's even a lip at the end to keep you from pushing it into the pinion. Only downside is, you can't get to the settings on the gyro very easily.

LOL, have fun at BMT. Tech school is fun too but seriously man don't let them catch you underage drinking. Sorry to hijack the thread. I've been in the Air Force 6 years now, bout to get out and start ROTC. You should grab a good simulator and use it on a laptop till you can start flying again.

The above post courtesy of you tax dollars hard at work. Enjoy. TT Minit Titan, Spektrum DX6i

It's now flybarless!
https://rc.runryder.com/t636990p1/

I also changed out the ESC to a CC ICE 50. That solved the cut out problem but the batteries are definitely weak which i'm sure triggered the cut outs. It takes about a minute at 100% throttle for the RPM to reach full speed.

are you still using the stock blades??I love both my MT's but I have found the stock blades to be thwe ABSOLUTE worst blades I have flown. Not so much the flight characteristics but they heat the motor and esc and EAT mah.I gained almost 2 min of flight time switching to align woodies.Cf blades give slightly less flight time but way better performance
