My Knight 50 sport spindle bent in flight. Not a new problem I understand, and I do fly 3D with it. So, given what we've learned, is the only answer to upgrade all to 8mm?

Read through the threads, some thought it was just a bad batch of spindles with the threaded hole too deep into the shaft- others stated that you'd better upgrade if you want to fly 3D.

Or, the EVO shaft- is it working for anyone (3D flying, no bending).

Am I being too cheap? Yes. But I had flown the original spindle (bought the heli used) about 15 flights, no problem, had a minor crash (tail servo failure), replaced the spindle, and only flown 4 flights before tracking problems showed that the spindle is bent.

I'll get it apart and check the hole depth tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the help,

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

I have used the Evo shaft with no problems, but I have upgraded to the 8mm shaft, as it just seemed to be better.

Evo shaft will work just fine unless you really spank it hard. I haven't had any issues with the Evo shaft, but I'm a LONG, LONG way off from flying like HC.

Knights have been flown hard for a long time before the 8mm upgrade was introduced. The 6mm spindles were not an issue when they were the hardened silver variety, and only began experiencing failures after Compass went to the black oxide finished style.

If ya wanna be cheap, try the Evo spindle, if you are too much of a pilot for that, go with an 8mm upgrade. One way, or the other, you have a viable solution.

Another site the Compass rep listed that the silver shafts were softer, the black ones were supposed to be better (bending is the reason given for switching to the black ones- color has not much to do with hardness/stiffness, but in any case an easy way to identify the different shafts.) Mostly the problem was attributed to the machining depth of the threads in one end of some shafts.

But all-in-all I'm gathering that I'd better plan for upgrading to 8mm if I want to keep this machine.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I already knew the answer.
