Shiro Muji,, It's really not that hard to tune the pipe, and if your useing it,,, You might as well get the most out of it,,
Just make sure that there is enought header pipe left, so that when you see a drop in rpm, then you can just move it back out to the last cut,,, Now I will admit,, It is time consumming doing it, as you really need to get the engine up to opperating temps, but it is well worth it,,, I cut about 3/8 of a inch at a time, That way it doesn't take to many cuts to get the header to the right length, Plus it still has enought header incase is starts to go back the other way,, But If you like your pipe now,,, Wait till you tune it to it's best,,,, Now the benifets will probley only be seen if you are ALL OUT 3D flying or DRAG RACEING,, So if your just sport flying, with mild 3D Then I probley wouldn't go thru all the trouble,,

I have to say,, You have one Good Looking Bird, not just the pipe,, I have been watching your post about the Maxum gasser for some time,
Looks really nice,, Heli, and pipe,, XGM/VGM

Yes, most of us Gasser flyer uses Mobil1, so far there's no problem about it.

How about you what is your Oil ratio?

Tuned pipe update: I fly yesterday and adjust the clearance of the pipe to the headers, I make it more closer to the header and I found it more powerful than when the distance between the header and the pipe is almost an inch. The Hovering rotor RPM is 1900. is it normal or do I need to lower it down? as I observed the pipe wants higher rpm to run smoothly. by the way I am using a Hanson 3DMax Engine. I use 25:1 oil ratio since we are in the tropical country. it is always sunny days here, no winter season guys . .. the air is a little bit Humid and Hot.

From what I know Shiro, with the tuned pipe you are pretty well stuck with whatever headspeed it works best at. 1900 sounds abiut right to me, as thats what Im expecting mine to be running at.
From memory if you make the header shorter the operating rpm comes down....but then there will be less power the shorter you make it.
It will still be much better than a regular muffler though.

Hi Gorn, the longer the pipe more torque you can have, the shorter more top end.

Shiro Muji,, You will want to bring your normal curve down, to say about 1600 to 1650, for just flying around, you don't need it on the pipe while just flying around, or hovering, ,But in Idle up 1 and 2 set to your likeing,, As for the header the shorter you make it the more RPM you will get,, UNTILL you pass the point of the tuned pipe,, Thats what I was talking about earlier in the post,, That is how you tune the pipe to your engine,, That way you are getting the best performance out of it,, So now you know how it works,, just keep cutting off the header a little at a time, untill you see the rpm drop, then just back the pipe up to the last flight, and your all set,, Hope this helps.. Hi Xcellgasman, what I did is insert the pipe and the header more deeply inside the rubber coupler so that the clearance between the pipe and the header will be decrease, I do not cut the header. I think It would be the same as cutting off the header. What do you think my friend?

That will work to a point,, but if you get to much of the header into the pipe, then it will start to hurt the performance,, If you know that the rpm is still on the rise, then I would cut if off flush with the pipe, and then start moving the pipe on the header again, untill you see the rpm drop, Your on the right track,, Stay with it,, you will then be getting the whole system in tune, which will make it work to it's best,, I'm glad that you are getting it setup,, It will be like night and day, compaired to what it was before you tuned the pipe,, Most people think it is just bolt and go as for performance, but to make it work the way it is supposed, you have to tune it,, Good luck, and keep us informed,,

P.S. Just a little story about a tuned pipe,, I have a Great Plains Patriot with a webra speed 50 and retracts, turnning about 10,500rpm it would fly about 95mph, then I put a tuned pipe on got the engine turnning 16,300rpm and thru the speed trap it was clocked at 156mph,, Now that's performance,, I still have the plane, but I landed it at about 100mph inverted,,, It is still repairable, but I haven't flown it for years now.. I need to get it back into the air,, It sure was a crowd pleaser,,

Woops,, I didn't read your post very good,, Yes if you don't have the header into the pipe, Yes it will work, and if you still have some more room then by all means keep getting them closer together,, But don't let them touch, end to end,, it might cause interferance,, Sorry,, I need to slow down and read it so I clearly understand the question..
