Try a major ship builder here in the U.S.. There always looking for experienced welders. I heard the thunder tiger grommets for raptors are better than the Align ones. They dont go bad when fuel gets on them.

Sorry to hear that.

Yea, I put some Thunder Tiger grommets on mine, so far so good. Some guys are just cutting off the end of the canopy plastic strut and threading thumb screws in. That sounds like the ticket to me and I'll be doing that mod in the near future!

i did the screw in the plastic upgrade because i have the gyro plate upgrade that comes with the rear metal bar to go between the canopy holders as well as put tt raptor canopy grometts in. you need to have that before you do this upgrade or your defeating the purpose of the plastic holders. now i need to put the canopy holder breakaways on made of carbon to complete the upgrade assembly.

brcg123: Good point about the align upgrade gyro plate and the metal cross brace, I forgot about that.

To each their own, but wouldn't you be concerned that using carbon canopy holders wouldn't break away as easily?

I also installed the inexpensive Align frame stiffeners. I've read some glowing reports that they seem to really save the expensive cf frames in crashes. As far as I can recall, I haven't read of one crash with them where they didn't prevent the frame from being broken also. I guess they allow the lg struts to break away w/out damage to the main frame.

Of course, I'm sure there are incidents where it hasn't helped, but for the cheap $ and the light weight of them, I figure what the heck!

the ones im talking about are flat plates with cutouts to put your plastic canopy holders into and then hook the plate to the frame, not the screw itself, that way canopy, screws and about 40% of the plate come off without breaking the frame. i think helidirect sells them. also another good upgrade to put on is the carbon base stiffners. they hook from the bottom engine mount bolt to the front two skid bolts, closing the gap, standing 90 degrees to the base. in otherwords they dont lay flat like the base. they really, really stiffen the frame around the engine big time. would absolutly recomend this upgrade. good luck.
