Spektrum recommends against usin ga lipo in the Tx. The higher voltage can cause damage.

JR has a 2500 mAH Tx battery, and Cheap Battery Packs has a 2600 mAH one.

I am running a 2700 mAH that I picked up a hobby shop, and it runs great. I charge it every month or so.

I don't know why I'm confused about this, but please hear me out.

Why am I reading that if I have a 2000 mah Li-Ion, I have to charge less often than if I have a 2000 mah NiCd? Wouldn't I get the same amount of flying time from each? Isn't 2000 mah the same whether it's in a Li-Ion, a LiPo, a NiMH or a NiCd? Doesn't the DX7 use the same amount of power regardless of which battery it has?

I understand the basic differences between the types of batteries - ie that the NiCds and NiMHs lose power whether you're using them or not and the Lithiums don't, but is it that different?

And, how do you know when to charge a Li-Ion so that you don't get to the field on empty?

And, while I have your attention, how can I find out how many volts the DX7 will tolerate, and how many mah's it consumes? I couldn't find it in the manual or on their website.

Thank you for your help. My 1500 NiMH original DX7 battery is at 80% capacity after less than a year, and I just bought a replacement which I'm not sure I'm crazy about. But I don't want to get a Li-Ion, plus a new charger, unless I know what I'm doing.

i dont understand why i can use a li-po in my dx7. the screen voltage monitor with a stock battery goes up only to 3/4. if i have my li-po in there it shows full. i havnt had any problems. i charge it out of the transmitter.

I got a lipo for my Tx. I installed one diode in line. The battery fully charged is 12.6, but drops to under 12.53 almost immediately. The diode drops it .7 volts which makes it approximately 11.7 a few seconds after turning on the Tx. It will read 11.8 initially, but then goes to 11.7 within a few seconds. A fully charged Nimh will read 11.3, or at least mine did. I'm pretty comfortable, personally, with the .4 to .5 volt increase in initial voltage. The benefits are it lasts a lot longer, and the charge time is a little over an hour instead of all night.

The diode mod is easy, and very inexpensive.

Good luck.
