share your building tips on going scale, prep, trimming the plastic, painting the clear and or white plastic, taping, etc... what's used on clear plastic to give the tinted look for windows?

just wanted to get a feel of things before i start hacking into my fuse to avoid mistakes or at least reduce the chances of making a mistake and trash the fuse

Trimming the plastic- take your time and BE PATIENT
If you get in a hurry things will go wrong
I used Krylon Fusion for base coat on all mine and it works great
I've only done the white plastic so don't know about the clear ones.
I use 3M automotive masking and have only had one incident but it was really cold out and shouldn't have been painting anyway Test fit everything and do a few test flights BEFORE painting. That's about it from me, I'm sure Slider will have some other good advice

i use the blue 3m tape, also a fine line tape, crisper lines with when doing two tones, fusion paint as well in the inventory of supplies, most of the trimmimg done with drimmel cutting and sanding wheels, break out the exacto for the delicate cuts when needed

The clear bodies are an entire different way to do you painting... I will post more in a few minutes as I need my breakfast, before I write a book on this subject... I have alot of experience with the clear bodies.............

I didn't stencil like doug I am a cheater too. I found a star punch at the craft store and a package of stickers for $1 with enough white in between the stickers to make the stars. Will be dooing the rest of the stickers on the PC. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Is the body you have a darthdrk fuse because that is the one I'm most familiar with... First you have to remember the clear bodies are lexan and very flexable so you will need to use the lexan paints on it which will limit the color choices you have to work with...
First, cut all of the flashing off like the instructions show. The 2 halves have a male and female flange on them where your going to join the 2 halves.sand the edges down until they are smooth and straight I use a block of wood with sandpaper stapled too it.....
once everything dry fits nicely your ready to paint. Painting from the inside is how it's done with lexan.
I use liquid masking on the windows so they will stay clear. use 2 heavy coats so when you try to remove the masking film it will come off easily... This will take some time and patients to get a good clean line along the edge of the windows....
If your going to use 2 or more colors for your paint job spray the darkest color first or the biggest area which ever looks to be the easiest to do... I try to stick with one color and do the detail with stripping tape on the outside, it's just easier that way...
Once painted peal the liquid masking off the windows and tint with tamiya window tint, it's for lexan and won't be a problem... use light thin coats until the right darkness is achieved.....
I like to use GOOP to glue the 2 halves together you just need a thin coat on the female flange to make it stick. let it set up some before you put the 2 halves together...
This again takes time and patients to line everything up and get a good tight glue joint... Duct tape or painters tape will help hole thing together until your glue dries... If you can get small clamps on the joints they are great to hold it together also...
I like to leave the bottom of the fuse open so I can slide the mechanics in the fuse from the bottom and tape the bottom seam for easy removal later on.... Try to avoid using screw as they look out of place on most smaller helis...
The rest is stripping and detail work all done from the outside....
I'm sure Darth has a alot more tips because he has doe alot more of these than I have.
Also you can always PM or email him for advice and he will help you thru any issues that arise.
I'm sure you have a ton of questions that I didn't cover here so ask away and I'll try to answer them all...
Good luck with your fuselage...

Goop is like a thick contact cement and seams to work the best on the lexan and I use it on the white plastic too....
I don't know what your LHS carries but it might be worth a try...

I'm not sure what that is tryan but if it holds and I'm sure it's free go for it. I only post what I use and know about, but I'm sure there are a dozen other glues that will do the same job.....
