I hovered my MT last night for the first time, it was in a village hall. I hovered for about 4 mins then landed and spooled down until the blades stopped, I immediately when to spool up again but the motor only kicked a little as I opened the throttle, it would not run. After waiting about 2 minutes it spooled up fine.

Is this normal?

If it is the thermal cut-out in the esc I thought it would have cut it in in the air, not waited for me to shut the throttle, or is it a bit intelligent? I noticed the stock motor and esc were very hot. I have cut out all the vents in the canopy.

My set up is:
Stock motor
stock 40A esc
Stock wooden blades
TP 2200 extreme v2

If there is soil going over the canopy, you're too low!

check the gear mesh! try spinning your blades thay should spin 3 or 4 times before stopping that may be the reason you got high temps the motor is working harder than it should be

Loving life! Flying helis.

I've had exactly the same thing happen. Apparently, so have heaps of other people, even those with the new SE with the ESC with built in heatsink. Here's a thread I started about this problem:
http://www.runryder.com/t401763p1/

I actually have placed 2 more square holes holes in the black canopy and have also placed an old PC card heatsink on the top face of the ESC. I also have gone to Align Pro woodies and have jusyt yesetrday fitted an Axi cooler fan to the stock motor.

I was getting enough heat from mine that the black canopy sheet actually warped.

I'm yet to test the new setup out, but I'm sure it will make a huge difference to running temps and eliminate my cutout problems.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks for your comments, backlash is good!!

Stevo,

Great minds think alike, I ordered an AXI2208 about 3 hrs. ago and bought a PC heatsink earlier today. Let me know how you get on, if you please!!

many thanks gents,

It happens with everyone but not all notice as they ussually keep flying until landing.

Even the SE with new ESC that has heatsink and motor does it. My mesh and belt tension is right and it still happens, it is not the thermal cutoff but more a timing thing.
I really do think the soft start is a little too soft. I did some tests and if you land and it won't restart you can dis/reconnect batt and it will spool up as normal.
Or sometimes spin the rotors by hand and then give it thr. It seems that the timing gets a little confused or something.

I'll have to look at the esc programing instructions again, can't remeber if you can adjust the timing. If not I'll go for another esc as I find it annoying.

Thanks,
SP

You can change the timing from Auto to a few others. Be carefull it could make the motor run hotter.

I did try a different ESC and didn't like it at all. All I do now is not spool down completely unless I finished the pack.

What would be an optional motor/esc combo?

I am still getting pumped up to by the MT...
