Not surprising. They gave their guns up for "safety". Why not give up sex for a TV?
How is that safety thing going anyway?

Agreed.

Sickening from the standpoint of freedom to apply the fundamentally sound right to defend oneself, and sickening as well to think of all the antiques and collector's items that were lost.

Not really. Speak to most British people and they are against guns cos they see them for what they are. That video is very biased. For thos that wish to enjoy killing, you can still own a gun legally (i think ??).

Have you spoken to most British people? Or is that what your news media has told you...

Biased video or not, look at your own statistics since your legally armed countrymen have been disarmed. Violent crime has risen.

If guns kill people, Yug, all of mine must be defective.

GimbalFan, amen brother.

You're "survey" is UK based, not from an independant 3rd party, Yug. Talk about biased?
What are guns for ?
Well, if you really have to ask, you probably wouldn't understand anyway. I pray you are never put in a position where you need one and don't have one, buddy.

Cheers.

Yug, I can admire your passive stance. If everyone had your mindset we'd never again need guns for protection. They could then just exist for sport (skeet shooting, etc) -- but not everyone has your higher vision.

There will ALWAYS be a somewhat predictable percentage of humans who are criminally inclined. It's human nature, and honest folks should be able to demonstrate their sanity and responsibility level, and then be allowed to arm themselves against being harmed by those criminally insane individuals.

Agreed, Gimbal. Well said.

Firearms, first and foremost are for self defense. However, guns, believe it or not, do have other uses, Yug. It is there uses that don't make headlines and you don't hear about in the news.

Recreation.

These other uses are the ones you (and other like-minded people) can't comprehend because you have been brainwashed into your current line of thinking. Here in the States, we have literally dozens of different types of shooting sports that millions of Americans take part in and enjoy every year. Shooting sports based on military, law enforcement and civilian marksmanship. IDPA, GSSF, IPSC, NRA, USPSA, SASS, are just a few of the organizations we have here in the States dedicated to the legal use of firearms for sporting recreation. Believe it or not, YOUR country has a very long history in firearms recreation activities, especially with regards to hunting (which, of course, is yet another aspect of firearm ownership here in the States).

Just so you don't think I was throwing out BS shooting sports organizations in my other post, Yug, here are the official sites of the few I mentioned off the top of my head. Again, these are just a few of the shooting sports orgs. were have here in the States. There are many, many more. I have had the pleasure of competing in a number of them and can't express how much fun they really are. Very safe and family oriented shooting sports!

Well, I go along with Yug, only so far as I think that a lot of guns are unnecessary.

THAT DOES NOT JUSTIFY GRIMINALISATION.

In UK you can legally apply for a shotgun certificate(lower-age restrictions apply)

You can apply for a FIREARMS cert. (again, age restrictions.
(includes "repeater" weapons)
You can , AFAIK, freely buy a low-powered airgun (age-restriction=18+ )
There is a police vetting procedure and inspection of premises and locked safes
you CANNOT own a handgun, legally.

In the case of the two "fruitcakes" (Dunblane and Hungerford) they were both registered firearms holders and licensed by the Police....a clear indication that the system worked well*sarcasm off*

As every schoolboy is aware, legislation did not stop the IRA in Ireland, or the UK criminal fraternity, from arming themselves to the teeth....however, politicians have teir own special lack of intelligence and hidden agendas.

I have used both airguns (pistols and rifles0 and fired rifles, handled but not fired a shotgun .I've no fear of guns, only their handlers...The british public were well and truly shafted with the ban...the cost is hidden for 50 years under the official secrets act,in order that the cretins cannot be censured.

I'm assured by an ex-pistol owner, that although he lost a lot on the compensation -front, the national figure ran into billions of pounds.

Logic dictates that if you have a legal ownership-framework, you have the ability to monitor the majority of owners (but see above ,Dunblane and Hungerford)...it doesn't mean that they WILL be monitored, but at least they are "visible" to law enforcement.

Now, all UK handguns are "underground"...there is a huge supply, so much of a problem, the police have gone grovelling to gang -leaders and "asked" them to tell their members to be "good boys" and stop shooting each other!!! AND THE BLOODY PRESS KEEPS SHTUM.

When I was about 11 i became a reasonably proficient marksman with both air-pistol and air-rifle (I'd also spent a whole pound at the local fairground ,on 5 shots with a real, pump-action Winchester

Had there been another war, requiring conscription, I and my contemporaries were already "gun-savvy" the military would have had an easy ride on that side. (also played with disabled Lee-enfield .303's in the Sea-Cadets )

Today, the gov't has lost that initiative, lost the plot and stolen a basic freedom by lies, cheating ,subterfuge and dishonesty.

The whole handgun ban was ill-conceived and badly executed.

Hmmmm...Give up sex for 6 months in exchange for a 50" plasma TV?

HELL YES! It is only 6 months, and then I can sell the TV and buy a new Stratus and my wife can keep the change

How the hell did this turn to gun control?

I own a Colt .45, S&W 357 and a S&W .22. They all must be defective. None of them have killed or even hurt anybody Then again, nobody has broke into my house while I was home.

If somebody ever does break into the house and I shoot them. I am sure I will not be charged with a crime. After all, the gun killed them, not me!

Guns..The difference between the UK and the US is that the UK citizen has never had to own guns to deal with either unfriendly natives, or unfriendly animals. As such the UK mindset comes from a totally different perspective.
In the 60's 70's and 80's gun crime in the UK was very low, only since border control was relaxed, upon joining the EU, did both immigration and gun import go down the toilet.

TV...No sex for six months for a large box of flickering lights with which to stare at, get hypnotized by, and sit in a vegetable like state in front of. Err no thanks.
Plus recently here in the UK the BBC seems almost to have turned into a government propaganda dispenser, this coupled with the law (which is actively pursued) stating that TV owning citizens must pay a TV licence fee or go to jail, i.e. to watch/listen to the said government propaganda, make it seem like a pretty crappy place to be.

Warning...This hobby is very addictive and may damage your wealth
