Why are we so quick to judge other people based on their possessions
Nope, it's simply that it's not justifyable given the content of TV progrmming. Most of it is advertising, the news is either scaremongering or biased junk/misinformed/glamourised/hyped bollocks. Even the weathermen usually get it wrong. My closest friend has a TV in his bedroom for catching the news early in the morning - I reckon that's a very negative way of starting the day seeing as most news is fundementally negative and scaremongering. It seems many folk feed ravenously on negative input. That's got to be wrong and unhealthy. Sadly, most humans seem to love it.

Why must we justify owning more of one thing? Who are we to do that? If I want 9 helis, I'll own 9 helis. If I want 20 TVs, I'll buy 20 TVs. Does that make me a bad person? Do you think you could justify owning 4 or so helis to a person who isn't into this expensive hobby? And if you couldn't, would it matter what that person thought of you?

You sure got that right. Anything for ratings. AND the news is slant edited to sensationalize the topic. I quit watching news, it's to depressing.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I believe the point Yug is making is that what you get OUT of a heli is far more worthwhile and rewarding than what you get out of a TV, and as the pathetic TV addict that I am, I have to agree.

TiVo's at least allow one to skip the commercial crap, and w/several hundred channels there usually is something worthwhile and/or educational to watch, but I'm still a bit ashamed to say that I have a TV on whenever I'm at home except while sleeping. I am indeed an addict.

While the sim has helped me learn to fly RC, it certainly hasn't helped me wean myself away from the dreaded evil tube. Whenever a show about aircraft pops up (like right now about Hueys doing dust-off duty in Vietnam) I've got to fire up the sim and fly what's on the tube. Oy VEY.

That's all well and good, but why go as far as to paint everyone with more TVs than him (or any one else) "blatent materialistic, wastefull extravogance"? Seems a bit harsh to call a guy who simply owns more than one TV.

There are TONS of worthwhile shows on TV. TLC, the History Channel, Discovery, Sports channels, kids educational shows, etc. It's not ALL doom and gloom. It's up to the user to get the most out of his TV, much like it's up to the modeler to get the most out of his heli. You don't like violent movies or the "news" shows? Don't watch them. You don't want more than one TV in your home? Don't buy more than one. But why paint someone in a negative light simply because he does?

To each his own I guess...

Crikey I dunno, tis late now.
Depends on what is justifyable. Owning 20 TVs is pointless and has nothing to do with being goood or bad. However this is subjective in that if someone was seriously into TVs, then I would expect them to have many and getting involved into the whys and wherefores of this and that.
For me, owning my helis is fine because they each staisfy my quest for the greater understanding of the heli "experience".
I don't care what anyone thinks of me as it's ther perogative to think what they like.
The big problem is that the more material wealth one has, the greater the materialism is that owns the individual.

Owning 20 TVs may be pointless to you just like owning 4 or 5 or 20 helis is pointless to someone else. You could justify why you may own that many helis, but it may make no more sense to someone that owns more than one TV. To some, TVs are just as cool as helis are to you and I. Same goes for big dollar stereo systems, car audio, home entertainment systems, video games, etc. Heck, some people own more than one home!

Hobbies aren't just limited to toy helicopters and air planes. Like I said, to each his own.

Now, would I give up sex for a TV? Hell no! That much we agree on.

The thing to do is to have TV and helis and sex, just not all at once except on certain special occasions. There's no logical reason to ever give up any of 'em, not even for a new TV.

From the article:
The firm found 47 percent of men would give up sex for half a year,
Only for half a year? 6 months? I'd do that it in a hearbeat!

Sex just gets you in trouble anyway....

This hobby is like Kryptonite to chicks!

Bulletproof corduroy dungarees -- provided you get a proper fit.
Did she forget to wear her glasses the day you proposed?

My girl is a fanatical privacy freak. NO pics allowed online, none on the puter even. I've got a bunch burned onto CD but I don't dare post 'em -- she knows way too much about way too much.

The number of possessions is pretty irrelevant...I buy most things "used", so, long before all this "green" rubbish,I knew that recycling someone's castoffs by doing minor repairs/renovations, would give me the ownership of something I may not otherwise afford, whilst saving a waste of resources.

I don't currently use a TV although I have 3 or 4....none were bought, all saved from the tip...I just can't bear to throw away something that has a life left in it.

Swap TV for sex? definitely, sex for TV no way,...though if it meant rejecting "mrs. palm" for a few months......Hmmm ,how much could i flog a tv for.
