I have this pair of Brown & Sharp dial indicators, with graduations of 0.00005". They are mounted on SPI bases, on my nice surface plate . Im looking for some opinions on the best way to go about indicating the tolerance in rotation

Yes that should work, I use a Mitutoyo dial guage mounted to a magnetic base with swivels. Just make sure you set the dial guage in about half way then zero it before taking readings. If you have pics of your setup that would be helpful.

Make me jealous thats a nice setup and will work 100%. I just put my engines in a small vise with soft jaws and then setup my dial indicator and measure away.

I used a kurt vice, has the nice surface ground flat spots for a mag base to stick to. Smooth jaws don't screw up the engine

Back to it!
