Hi all,

I used Z30 1110 KV motor, CC80 ESC, main gear 96T, Pinion 9T, 22.2V Lipo. By calculation should be around 2,300rpm head speed. How come the tech shows 1500rpm? Any idea, please advice. Thank you!

My calculations show 1960.

22.2 x 1110 = 24642/10.67 = 2309 x .85 (standard 85% efficiency used in such calculations) = 1962.

If you are just getting 1500 check to make sure your ESC is set at 1000% and that you do not have one or two bad cells in your pack.

Thanks for reply! I'd tried two different packs and they're both very new. Regarding the ESC, how to check the setting at 100%?

Set the Phoenix 80 to high governor and adjust the throttle curve for a tachometer reading of about 2000. You will probably need a fairly low throttle curve to get the headspeed correct.

Hi EHeliMan,

No offense, but I think that it's more likely operator error on the tach. I have a tach and have asked various people to give me readings. I have gotten readings all over the place. I just say thanks and try again when someone more technical is around.

You may be hitting a resonant frequency and getting the blades to stop that way (assuming you're using an optical tach). Have the person taching the heli start at around 1900 rpm. Then when the blades stop you should be assured that you're in the ballpark.

Keep 'em flying.

I set to high governor now and got very big different. The head speed reached 2,000rpm when half stick at 0-25-50-75-100. Is it normal?

I can set the upper end point to 0 to control the head speed under 2,000, or throtttle curve at 0-50-50-50-50. Which one is better?

The test fly was not good enough. When hovering, everytime the red led on the ESC flashed, I heart the speed changed and the tail shook. May be the ESC tried to speed up the motor for some reason but too rough. Any advices? Thanks!
