I'm looking for a nice reasonably priced brand new or used but not flown painted Stratus canopy.

One question is the custom cutting for the heli and muffler. How does that work?

Try http://www.arizonaheli.com, they have some really nice scheme on the website and I'm almost sure they also do custom ones..

I reciently ordered one for my tempest, very sweet and the price was $179, would that be resonable for you?

Oh, btw, I'm about to order the second from them for my new stratus too

It's a pain in the A$$ for the painters. It's a shame that MA sticks there customers with that canopy. The BW Stratus is a gorgeous heli, MA needs to step up to the plate and at least Scribe the mold so that there are some guidelines for the cut and the battery switch access hole. The big issue is when you remove the back flange from the bottom, the canopy WILL CRACK DOWN THE SEAM if it is not re-glassed back over(I use carbon). In addition, the way the Stratus frames are drilled for the stand offs, the canopy does not mount straight on the horizontal plane. I.E. the lines down the side are not in-line with the pipe and the boom.

It's as if they designed an all new heli, supper nice, then just grabbed a 5 year old canopy off the shelf, and hacked it up so it would fit, and called it done.

Bummer.

Yah, what Dave said! ^^^^^^^^^ I could not agree more.

Hey Hoot, did you try cutting up your canopy yet? If you did, now you know what we were talking about a while back.

OK how about the cutout for the muffler. If I buy a prepainted canopy that's already cut for an SB16/17, will it fit on my heli with an SB19?

I bought my canopy from arizona heli and he only had the old Hatori template, but I have the new SB-19. When I got the canopy it was very nicely done and the muffler fit perfect. The SB-16/17 cutout should be the same for that side of the muffler. Email Bill at arizona heli to confirm first though. I hope this helps...

Thanks sniper.

Anybody else confirm that the precut Arizona Canopy will fit my Stratus with the YS91SR and the SB19 Hatori muffler?

Hoot,

The cutout diagram provided with the kit was not the exact fit for the Hatori SB19. It required a bit more trimming to make it fit correctly.

If I were you Mike, I would trim the canopy and then send it over to your painter. You want to make sure it fits prior to paint otherwise you are risking ruining a brand new paint job.

Or, have them send you a canopy to try for fit. If it needs any trimming, you could just mark it and send it back for them to finish the trimming. Most good painters are used to dealing with fiber glass.

I got my stratus canpopy directly from Arizona heli. I am running the YS91sr with the hatori sb-19 on a bobby watts stratus frame. My canopy did not require further trimming. I can provide photos if you would like. Bill is very precise and I told him prior that I was running that muffler.

Placed my order with Arizona. Bill helped me out alot. I also talked with Dave Yost. He was also a great help and gracious enough to tell me where to buy under the circumstances today, for me.

Anybody interested in a brand new MA Stratus canopy... unpainted?

$65 shipped.

You'll love your Arizona Canopy when you get it. I've dealt with Bill on many occassions and undoubtedly, one of the best paint jobs I've had the honor to fly.

The Stratus canopy is the biggest complaint I have with the Stratus, and not just because of the way it's aligned or scribed. It looks like a 1940's Ford covering up an Italian sports car. I'd think AZ Heli or DYD would be ahead to make a completely different looking canopy. I have the same complaint with the Vibe.
