If you have the pumped engine with the regulated carb, you need to use the pump.

On the pump you will see in on one nipple and out on the other in from tank out to carb . You can run without pump I have had some applications run better with pressured system and regulated carb with no pump and some run good with pump and regulated carb without pressure from exhaust it will not hurt anything to try

I have the standard non-pumped engine and it is sweet. Runs consistently every tank to the last drop and is very easy to tune. Starts first time every time. I just use the standard TT header tank on my Raptor 90.
