I was thinking about getting the Freya EX tailcase(0414-372)for my EvoSpec and have a few questions.

Is is any lighter then the stock plastic case? I am looking to shed some tail weight to get the heli to balance?

Can I still use my shaft drive conversion with it? Looking at the pictures I am not quite sure they will work together. I am spoiled by the increased power of the shaft drive and would hate to go back to the belt.

Thanks,

Dave

No. I weighed both units, they were within grams of each other. The EX tailcase was a tiny bit lighter.

I'll say no, but I'm not familiar with the shaft drive parts.

Does this pic help?

Thanks Andy,

Great Pic! You have just saved me some money.

Looking at the pic it defiantly wont work with the shaft drive. There is no way to mount the rear shaft bearing block and even if it did it would not correct my tail heavy situation either. (but it sure looks nice)

BTW where did you get your vertical fin from? I like the look.

I drew up the fin in Illustrator and cut it out of 3mm CF sheet. Used various Dremel bits to get it to the rough shape and a belt sander to finish the outside edges.

Might be worth noting that the part the vert fin attaches to is separate from the EX Tail unit... p/n is: 0404-722 "WC stabilizer band". I weighed it and tail case together.

I know a way to make your Xspec nose heavy without adding weight...

If you are referring to moving the TR servo up front, I am already working on something for that. I am running SWM so I don't have the clearance that I would like and am trying to work around it.

Its freezing cold and snowing here so I don't have much else to do.

What about a carbon boom and supports?

Carbon boom is in route. Already have Carbon Boom supports. I think the combination of the Carbon boom and the removal of the horizontal fin might just do it.

Anyone know how much the Ex rear servo mount saves?

The EX rear servo mount is 16 grams. I don't have the stock servo mount to compare to the EX.

I am running Thunder Power 2100 2 cell LIPO w/ MPI heavy duty adjustable regulator set to 6.4v and a 5.4 regular reg for the tail. With this set up and torque tube which adds about 3 oz I am at 10lbs 10 oz RTF no fuel.
