T-Dar doesn't even have a keyboard, his thoughts and feelings are instantly transferred to RunRyder via telepathy, kinda a "stream of consciousness thing !! Mind to internet connection.

I just spooled up the 600E tonite to see if the rudder and gyro are set up in rate mode. I set it up by eye and it is perfect.. The size and sound of this beast is awesome. I never left the ground as I was in my 10' square basement test area which I used to fly my cps and hummer in .... This would truly chop your head off if you ever got hit with a blade.... I'm pumped up now to see it fly.......

Tom..... No "D" flying....

But does it have purple?

Just kidding That must be one hell of a feeling spooling that Big Burly Bastard fired up.

No chance of anything purple on it, maybe some yellow might happen.... It is going to be a scary maiden flight for sure. I didn't even get above 1/2 throttle and I was shaking in my shoes.....

If I had a 600 I would be figuring out how to anodize all metal parts in the PURPLE. That way it matches the 222 purple Loctite that Im so fond of.

I'm set up for anodizing here at home. If it's aluminum - and if it'll fit in a 5 gallon bucket - I can make it purple (or most any other color).

Jerry have you tried doing some parts? I want mine anodized grey for scale project but I would imagine blasting or chemical removal of old stuff would pit this fragile aluminum also I have never pulled the bearings out of the swash to get to the ring I assume it could be done but what would need to be done to put it back together? I dont want to trash the somewhat pricey esky head to find out.

Get some crystal "Drain-0" or other granular drain cleaner. If there's several to choose from get the one that has the largest skull-and-crossbones hazard label on it. You want the one with the most lye.

Get a non-metallic container; put some warm water in it. Get some safety glasses and some gloves. Go outside.

Mix up a weak solution of the drain cleaner. Maybe a couple teaspoons to a pint of water. Stir to dissolve the crystals. Dunk the parts in for 30 sec or so - rinse and take a look. If you see no change dunk for a longer time. If you wind up dunking for 5 minutes of so with no apparent change then make the solution stronger and start the times again. Keep some rinse water handy for the part and for your eyes if you get any lye in them.

When you get it right you should get a nice even grey matt finish on raw aluminum. All traces of the purple should be gone.

This is the process I use to prep aluminum parts prior to anodizing. It strips off the aluminum-oxide (from the raw aluminum reacting with O2 in the air) and cleans to an even finish that takes anodizing very well.

When you anodize you accelerate the formation of the aluminum-oxide layer by passing electrical current through the part while it soaks in an weak acid bath. This layer is porous, and when soaked in dye it absorbs the color. Once you get the color density you want you rinse and steam (or boil) the part which causes the pores to squeeze tight - thus sealing the dye inside.

To remove the color you do the lye-soak procedure to strip the oxide layer. When it goes it takes the dye with it. I do it often when I'm testing a color combination. If I anodize something and don't like the result I just strip it off with lye and start again.

All this sounds scientific - but to see the process you'll realize how simple it is. I use 5 gallon buckets for the acid bath. My anode is a big chunk of lead. Power supply is just a 12 volt unit that you can find most anywhere (a 12 v car bat will work). I use dye from Caswell plating ($5 to $10 a bottle), my dip tanks are the wife's Tupperware that I steal when she's not looking and I seal in a bamboo steamer.

It's a low budget operation - but it works. I make little metal projects on my lathe like prop spinners and parts for my CNC machines (recently built a stirling heat engine) and started anodizing to color the parts since aluminum doesn't take paint well and the anodizing just looks better.

If I was to anodize the parts I would coat the ball links with lacquer or other protection to protect their smooth finish. Other than that it should do no harm.
