Did you end up supporting the pinion with one or two bearings?
Jack,
Why don’t you carve up a couple of side frames incorporating two bearings on that pinion. If he doesn’t hurt himself with that thing flying apart, he is going to need those side frames real soon.

I have one of these for my prototyping. They work great. You just have to go slow. It says it will cut 1/16 aluminum but I have used it on my upgraded frame material that is now .080 thick.

I do have that tool actually. I use it to cut G-10...

But I don't have the expertise or equipment to make the engine mounts, align the shafts etc.

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

After you get the major holes cut out for the servo, gears and lightning holes, just clamp the two frame together and drill all the screw mounting holes at the same time. You have to slot the pinion bearing mounts anyway so you can set the mesh. You can do it just think about it. Side frames are easy to make. All the other stuff is standard purchased items that you can get from Align.

It’s been around a long time Paul. I didn’t get mine from Radio Shack but it is the exact same tool. Keep a cup of kerosene around so you can dip it for cutting aluminum. I suppose you could use WD40 or some thinner for a lubricant.

Kinda surprised you can use it on G10 for very long. I didn’t think the tool clearance was close enough to cut the fibers. Jack do you cut the hairs off by another means?

Don't laugh, there's a guy here who has designed and manufactured a bullet proof vest from coconut husks - maybe G10 does have human hair in it
