Someone did a test on the XPS systems. Doesn't look good.

That post will be deleted in 3... 2... 1...

I do think it is amusing that if you read the product description when it appeared in Model Aviation, not one single feature listed is actually true. And he still touts his "Spherical Radiation" despite being squashed on that one.

Every single feature this product was and is marketed on has either never come to fruition or proven to be false. Why is this guy still in business?

Up for one hour and still not deleted! Wow!

In a strange way, I'm feeling much more validated about my own decision to not purchase an XPS unit. I wanted one pretty heavily after Toledo, and when the universal modules came out I almost bought one. However, I decided to wait at least a year and see how well it was working after that. Turns out I'm glad that I waited.

So far, I've not had the same kind of Red Flag feeling about the upcoming Airtronics stuff, but as with all things, time will tell...

Actually the XPS guy has been in a couple of different business. You can google Jim Drew with the words Amiga, Commodore or paintball and see similar kind of business practices.

XPS's in business because they priced lower and also because they landed a whale in the form of Graupner.

Why? It's about a radio link system... seems like the appropriate forum to me.

XPS threads these days often end up being more about the suitability of that manufacturer to supply goods (especially radio gear) to RC hobbyists, often to the degree that it rises up to the 'Buyer Beware' level of importance.

Folks need to know about this sort of stuff, and more could become aware of it in the Main Discussion area. The man lies about his products. If someone were to become severely injured or killed as a direct result of one of his false claims, then (aside from the tragedy) he'd be wiped out, leaving all owners of his products hanging dry.

I'm still wondering how you can have 120 simultanious users on only 16 frequencys

The same way you can have hundreds of computers on one ethernet trunk . . . time division multiplexing. The 2.4GHz systems are not transmitting the bulk of the time - they send breif data packets, and then go silent, and in that gap, another system can transmit. Perhaps being able to have more than one computer connected to a single wireless router is a better example - same channel, multiple data streams, also on 2.4.

The ability to share a channel with multiple systems is **NOT** hyped - that is a fact, and is one of the main functions of the unique GUID in every SS system out there . . .

I understand about the time division multiplexing. I guess it would highly rely on the firmware on how it handles collision detection.
Any idea how long it takes to send 1 frame and get a reply?

It speaks volumes that XPS would delete such threads from its forum rather than address them honestly. This raises additional red flags in my mind.

Thanks for the links, Gotak.

It's not TDMA. They don't have a timing scheme for TDMA rather the XPS sytsem like Spektrum uses DSSS which allows seperate spreading keys. The different spreading keys allows systems to talk on the same frequency without 100% destroying each other's messages. You can go look it up cause it takes too long to explain here.

Did anyone see the reply by JD?

here:
"Wires moving around the receiver is a potential cause. We have had many reports of a snap roll or other high-G manuevers inducing a failsafe condition. If servo leads are allowed to move back and forth around the receiver, this changes antenna frequency and the system can no longer "hear". Simply securing the wires in every reported case solved the issue."

Doesn't that sounds like someone saying "oh btw Spektrum and FASST did it the right way with diversity". LOL
