Hey guys,

I received a Scorpion 3026-16 1600KV motor for the TRex 500. I ordered this this weekend from innov8tivedesigns.com, the makers of the scorpion motor. It's an outrunner motor with an integrated fan (I think) on the bottom to help with cooling. It's supposed to be stronger and more efficient than the current stock motor. So I decided to give it a try.

It came in a very nice metal box, came with 3.5mm bullet connectors soldered onto the motor, 2 stickers and they even threw in a neck strap for fun. I heard about the scorpion motors for the 500 and called the company directly. They had a few of these 1600 kv motors for banging 3D on 6s.

I installed it last night and will fly it at lunch today. I'll keep you all posted.

Here are some pictures:

One minor thing with the install. Using an Align 15T pinion, I saw that the pinion, because it is closed at the top (likely to prevent breakage) did not let the whole pinion through. I could not seat the motor lower and it needed to be about a 2mm lower. So I took a dremel and just filed down the shaft until it was satisfactory. Otherwise, the gear would be riding quite low on the pinion. I'm not sure if there would be the same problem with other pinions like the new RevCo pinions.

OK, for the update:

I'm running:
Trex 500CF
Scorpion 3026-16 with 15T pinion (HS at 90% Idle up is 2800 and 3080 at 95% throttle)
AT 2200 6s (3s x 2)
AR 6200
Align ESC with external BEC

This motor was awesome in the 2 flights at noon. I tried to stick bang, not paying attention to much to my collective management, really trying to bog it, and sure enough, it was able to keep up with my stick mashing. It seemed to keep its headspeed during hard maneuvers where the 500L motor would start to lose its headspeed. I don't have my FDR on this heli (kind of given up on them personally). However, from a subjective point of view, at the same head speed, this motor rocks! I dialed my throttle curve down to 90% flat line because I didn't need the extra head speed (like I did on my Lepton). 2800HS seems perfect.

wouldnt a 15t on 1600kv and 6s be too much? I thought most people are running a 13 or 14t on the stock 1600kv motor

Like I said in my PM, I have been running about 2800-3000HS on the 500 (and my Lepton). This heli is more than capable of running this HS and I like it at about 2800. I have been using the 500L motor with a 16T pinion at about 85% throttle curve (since I didn't have a 15T pinion at the time I put the heli together).

I haven't tried 14T pinion but the 13T pinion was lacking for my flying style.

I know I tried this motor on a 13 tooth pinion and it was a little less HS then the stock 500
I didn't have any other pinions to try so I went back the to stock moter until I can get more pinons in stock

After your flights with the 15T on the 1600kv Scorpion are the packs pretty toasty?

Also anyone know the weight difference between this motor and stock Align motor. I am pretty sure this Scorpion is 195-197 grams...

The packs are warm but not hot, if that helps. Maybe I'll bring my temp
gun tomorrow to check. I didnt get a chance to weigh the motor.

docjoe.. on the other forum I posted on ur topic that Lucien said a 1600 on 15t would toast lipos under 3200 mah. If you like it, thats great but just wanted to tell you what he told me.

I don't understand the logic regarding this statement by Lucien. It seems that the limiting factor to puff up a battery would be the discharge rating. I'm running AT2200s that are 25c. I think these would be able to handle the amp draw. I don't think that the Evolite 3200s would be able to handle this at 18c.
