I have built 2 500's both utilizing 9650's on cyclic, one has a 401 w/ 9257 on the tail the other has a 770 w/8900g. I think many also use the 9257 for cyclics, and I have a friend using a set of hitecs with no issues so far.

As for the battery I haven't heard of it yet. I currently use my stock of 3S 2200's 25C in series and get around 4-4 1/2 min of 3D and put back around 1400-1500mAh

I'm using nearly the same setup except for the gyro/servo I'm using the 770 with a 9257. I have several batteries, evolite 6S, a pair of evo25 3S 2170, and a couple pair of airthunder 3S 25C 2000mah. The best bang for the buck IMO are the airthunders. They have every bit of the performance of the evo's (personally I think they actually have more) but they're cheaper.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

If your on a budget, get the HS-225MG's as they only cost like $27 bucks each. I got 3 of these for mine. Personally, I like them the best because they have the highest torque.

I'm using HS225mg's on cyclic and Logictech 6100T/G combo on tail. I've notice that its hard to find replacement parts for 225mg's i.e. servo case, gears etc..

Curious if there is any reason not to run 9650's all the way around including the tail. I just picked up the Trex 500 and the LHS guy sold me four 9650's. I have a GY401 for the Gyro.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

dave

I don't see any reason why 9650 shouldn't be run on cyclic and tail. I'm sure its better than my hs225mg. I think the only draw back on using the 9650 on cyclic is its plastic gears. But I've read that people swap the gears w/9257. If I had (4) 9650 I'll install it on the t500. That is whats nice about the t500 is that it has a lot of different variation of servos you can install.

yep plastic gears suck
the gears are not that strong and you have to pay $50 for each servo. I run the HS 5245mg's and I like them. also they come with metal servo arms and grandrc has them for $43 each.

Thanks for the replies gents. I think I will stick with the 9650's. I am not an aggressive flyer and am still at the "Holy Sh*t, I had it in the air for five minutes and didnt have to repair it!" phase <grin>. Doubt I would strip the plastic gears so if that is the only drawback to the 9650's I should be okay.

Thanks again,

dave
