I have my 12X on pre order and I can't wait. I think it is a killer price for what you get. Like JKos said, this is the top of the food chain.

Pricing....
Some of us fly more than just a Piccolo. Some of us have a lot of money invested in some really nice machines. We are talking literally thousands if not tens of thousands.
I think that hootowl has hit it directly on the head....
Along with others that state that the DX7 or the 9303 will cover the needs of 95% of the fliers out there....

But it depends on what you want to do in this hobby and how you want to do it...and that goes with any hobby... want a thousand dollar putter??? Not me, but for guys that use them, it is worth every penny...

Yes, $1500.00 is up there, but not compared to the equipment that it will be guiding....so for me, I can use the extra channels, and mixing, along with the comfort and feeling of knowing that I am doing what it takes to protect the many hours that I have invested in my models...and as far as the touch screen going away, well I am still out on that one... I had one failure on my 10X and that was after 5 years and it was covered under warranty....
I have used the 9303 and the scroll, so I think it will just be a matter of getting used to it... but I sure didn't/don't mind the touch screen....

Oh, and yes, I will have a 12X once they become available...

Fly what you like/need/can. It is your hobby.... Stan

FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!!!!

I had 14MZ. The worst part about that radio...telling people who dont know the hobby how much it cost. It was OK, but I had problems with mine and had to send it back...needed screen, pots, new PC board...

I fly a 9303 now and NOT ONE person has asked how much it cost. I like it!! So easy to program too.

Scale guys will appreciate the extra channels.

No reason to complain about cost. If that was not the issue, we would all have one. Life is entirely too short to complain about pricing. If you want it, just get it.

But in the back of my mind when I ponder these $2000 tx's is that they're probably manufacturing each copy for a couple hundred bucks maximum -- probably closer to $100.
Wow, so you really think it only costs $100 to manufacture a 14MZ? Somehow I think it's quite a bit more than that. Especially when you factor in the R&D costs. Now, with the R&D costs spread out over each TX those costs do go down as production increases. But, it's not like they are selling millions of these. There's no way they producing these for anywhere near $100 per unit.

What R&D costs? Everything that is in the 14 series radio is available from china. MP3 player, touch screen, digital stick encoder and Windows CE. An intern could write the software or just throw a few U$1000 to Bangalore and outsource.
The biggest cost is most likely the WinCE license.

Wow, it sounds so simple! It's amazing that with all this knowledge, experience, and expertise more folks aren't putting Futaba out of business. Imagine, a 14MZ killer for $19.99! But wait, there's more, WiFi, Bluetooth, 50 channels and 0 latency all for only $19.99.

The bottom line is that most folks don't have a remote clue what it takes to bring a product from concept to market.

O I totally agree, I can't believe how cheap things "really" are. Heck, I couldn't build a 2 channel radio, let alone a pot, a switch or a gimble Heck if I even know how 2.4 works or how someone comes up with the concept. I am just glad there are people that can and do for me.

$1500 is not a ridiculous price for what it is, fully built, tested, pretty, working, etc.... but I do think they priced it just outside causing a "double take" on the price and that will probably hurt the sales. They will sell many, I probably will end up with one myself , but I still think they could have "taken over" with this radio if it was right around $1,200.

The more and more I look at it..the more and more I still like it

P.S. My bro is into photography and salt-water aquariums...have you seen the prices on that stuff? Now some of that stuff is expensive!

With a radio like that, it better not have one single glitch!

I once heard about 3d flying,
"Doesn't anyone fly rightside up anymore?"

Every product always has minor glitches, the difference is the product support from the manufacturer. I think we are safe with the support we will get from JR.

One of the glitches with JR is they won't sell you a part if it requires opening the transmitter to replace it and I don't like to send things in, I'd rather fix it or modify it myself. Hobby Services supplies Futaba internal Tx parts and prices are not that bad with fast shipping and knowledgable service people.

If it's gonna happen it'll happen up there!

Yes the backlit screen is definitely sweet It would be nice to get a 9303 with a backlit screen. I have seen them online in Japan but not DSM.

How can you say more features? JR x9303 has 2 extra channels. Thats no feature, thats just more radio.

R&D costs for the 14 MZ: close to $3 million dollars.
Considering the work effort involved and the fact that they pioneered much of the technology into the RC marketplace that number really isn't unreasonable considering the effort and engineering involved.

Hhmmmm . . . .
Let's say Futaba gets as much as 1500 for the radio before distribution,
3,000,000 / 1,500 = 2,000 radios need to be sold before they can even think about profit.
