barend - I am new to helicopters as well - after a little research I bought a Mini Titan. 6 weeks on I couldn't be happier.

Lots of great info (and people to help) here: http://www.runryder.com/f106p1/

The things I did which ensured no crashes during the early stages:
1) lots of simulator time (RealFlight G3.5)
2) lots of reading - forum, etc
3) watching all of the Finless videos - can't describe sufficiently how valuable I found these - http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=52530&page=4
4) took hovering slowly - didn't mind using lots of batteries with only 2cm hops off the ground, etc. no need to rush.

As I said, I am extremely pleased with the Mini Titan. It seemed to go well right out of the box.

One of the things I thought about was getting a more 'beginner' helicopter (one of the co-axial ones?). Glad I didn't - going straight to a helicopter with this much potential was a good plan.

Having said all that, if I had my time again, I would not have gone with the stock electronics that is provided in the full ARF kit. I haven't had much luck with the ACE RC products - had to return the ESC, the motor makes screeching sounds and stripped the gears on two servos on the first minor crash (which incidently was caused by the ESC failing).

So, I think the helicopter is great - get the kit and buy separate electronics. Lots of good info on the E325 forum.

In terms of balancing blades, I immediately (like a lot of people) went to the Align 325 Pro blades (over the stock blades). Also, lots of discussion on the E325 forum on tracking issues.

hope this helps (and no doubt you will get lots of different opinions).
