Hi,

I have had an ongoing problem with vibration on my E550. The horizontal carbon stabilizer can be seen moving and makes a buzzing sound. I have never crashed the heli and I've had this problem since new, only about 25 flights.

I had this problem on the E620SE but tightened up the tail rotors and it basically went away. After the KASAMA head and tail fitted the vibration was 100% gone.

But I still have the problem on the E550. Things I changed/checked: main rotor balance, tracking, spindle replaced, paddle spacing/alignment checked, red dampers installed/lubed, metal headblock installed with metal washout base, tail rotor case/bearings/shaft/rotors/grips all changed (standard), stainless tail rotor hub installed.
Pitch curve in nor: -4 (bot stick)/+4 (mid stick)/+10 high stick, Pitch curve in idle 1 and 2: -10/+10 linear
The curve normal: 0/70/80/90/100 Thr curve idle 2 100/inh/80/inh/100

I can not get it to go completely but here are my observations:
Main rotor tightness does not affect this vibration.
Tail rotor blades tightened up more than normal eliminates it in idle 2 but not in nor mode.
Tail rotor blades normal tightness vibration is not there in nor mode but vibrates in idle 2 mode.

It does seem to be related to tail rotor tightness and head speed, at the start of the pack ussually the vibration is more and you can here a buzz from the horizontal stabilizer.

Any ideas? I have plastic tail rotors, try carbon? New metal tail grips? If you tighten up the tail rotors the plastic tail grips and blades seems to make it grip and release like it's sticky if you move the tail rotors by hand.

I'm ordering a 11T pinion to bring the head speed up to 2100RPM, stock is 10T 1900RPM (rough figures).

I am hoping now with this higher headspeed I can tighten the tail rotors a little more and the vibration should not be there in nor mode and idle 1/2.

Problem solved, turns out main gear was worn on an angle due to the pinion not being far enough down on the motor shaft.

Swapped the main gear for a new one and put the pinion down to the bearing on the motor and vibration completly gone!
