hi! I'm recently new to this hobby.

Right now i have a Esky Belt CP, and i just hear here and there and all over the place that Trex 450 are the best. so i would like to buy this "very good" electric Heli, but i have 1 question. What version should i buy? Plastic Version or metal version? like what is the durability of metal parts in a crash? i'm afraid to buy the metal version then crash and have to buy new metal parts and that would become a lot of expensive.

go all metal head 450 SE v2
you wont be sorry
there are alot for sale right now as the 500's are out in full force.

you dont have as much to fix when you crash with the SE all metal head and tail.
I went the plastic route and it was a bad decision.
with the SE most crashes you replace blades main shaft and spindle.
with the plastic almost every crash results in complete rebuild.
sense you are new and crashing is going to be inevitable the metal way is the way to go.

ITS NOT THE SIZE OF THE WAND ITS THE MAGIC INSIDE

+1 to what wizard said. I went plastic at first too - costs more in the long run for sure.

+2 to what wizard said, and RUSH said. Destroyed my plastic head in a bad crash, bought a full metal head to replace it.

i agree with the other answers. i bought the S model beacause of the entry level costs. as crashes came up i broke A LOT of plastic parts. so now my entire head is metal and just got the metal tail assembly. that's why i call it a trex450S+++, in my comments.

now unless it's a HARD crash, i just replace spindle, main shaft, blades. oh- canopy replaced once. i also got the heavy duty landing skids so i just bend them back and off i go.

you might save money in entry with the plastic models but in the end. you'll get tired of replacing the plastics and go metal anyways.

if you can afford it then go metal. trust us we've been there already for you.

I started out with plastic and it flew somewhat OK but when I upgraded to all metal it flew great. Eventually you will upgrade to metal anyway so just do it right the first time.

I have t 450's and the metal SE is the only way to go.. They hold up good in a crash, are slop free, and look really pretty too... Spend the extra money on good electronics and radio too, This is no place to be buying cheap $7.00 servos or $30 gyros.. You get what you pay for in the long run....

I think the HS55's are plastic gears? They should be ok, but you should know that after your first crash, there's a good chance of stripping them due to them being a direct connection to the swash...

If you have them already, I say use them, but you should consider the HS65MG's as a replacement...

As I posted above don't get cheap on the electronics meaning servos and gyro. The 55 servos will not survive a crash, they are very weak and will strip easily. I tried them on my first rex and they didn't last a week.. The Tail servo will cost more than the 65MG's do get a good digital servo for the tail...

i guess i will pass my hitech hs55 servos to my belt cp then... =( also i don't understand one thing, there are many main gears and many different feathering shafts, what should i do with main gear spare part? i only twice with my belt cp and they were "small" crashes, i broke the main gears everytime. does this happen a lot with trex too?

also how much is the difference between the motor 3700kv and the 3550?

IF you can hit throttle hold before the heli hits the ground then you might save the main gear but they are cheap anyway I always stock a couple, main shafts feathering shafts blades belts tail blades booms landing gear and if you buy the plastic s or sa you'll need to stock alot of the plastic head and tail parts too...

The main gear is much more robust than what you are used to on the belt, but are not indestructible. It all depends on the crash. I've seen major destruction of the heli (a couple of them my own), and the gear survived, but sometimes you may strip on a lesser crash. It's pretty much luck of the draw. As slider said, throttle hold is your friend.
