I see the humor and the hidden meaning in Jerry's picture.

Those three guys were in autopilot before they hit that mountain. So truthfully once you have basic flying skills the autopilot crutches are worthless if your about to hit that mountain those three guys were headed for. If your about to crash leveling the heli out isn't gonna help. Just think of the few posts of the Charlie brown kite eating trees we've seen getting the best of the helis what good is it to go into a tree on the straight and level.

Good beginner tool hell yeah, but if we always relied on crutches we would all still be in our walkers.

OOPS sorry those have been outlawed parents let there children fall down stairs in them. Maybe some of you will understand the walker scenario.

Hey I got an Idea shouldn't we also outlaw walkers for the elderly same damn difference.

Sorry Madam Cleo. You didn't read my mind.
The pilot hitting the mountain was visual indication of my relative "smartness" or more correctly the lack thereof.

I think gadgets are great for learning. They lower the curve, save fustration, maybe save money and time...but in my case once the Co-Pilot had me to the point where I could fly on my own I pulled it off and traded it for amore powerful engine!

One of you who has ultiple helis and parts should try cobbling together a rig that would put a gyro on the X & Y axis to see how it works. While it won't automatically save your bacon in a potential crash situation it woul dbe interesting to see how it stabilizes things.

I don't want to see helis go the way of WowWee's robo products. they've done away with the remotes entirely, and their newer toys are (allegedly) "fully autonomous".

I prefer pushing controls and making my Robosapien V2 walk up to somebody and fart. Quoth the robo, "Better out than in!"

On the other hand, some level of auto-stabilization is good. Sucks when a sneeze cost $250 and a week of waiting.

A soul in tension is learning to fly
