What do you think the best replacement high speed digital servo for a Hitec 81 servo is?
It is for the QJ8-EX.

Stroker,

I use the HS 85MG (Metal Gear) for swashplate, the HS 85BB (Carbon Gear) for the tail on my SP.

But I was wondering, too, if there is currently any better choice for a 29mm length servo on the market.

And what it the really best available 29mm / 1.1" length servo for the tail?

Cheers,

FunKey

Thanks, Jimbo

Seems to be the successor of the HS 85MG. But beside the fact that it is digital, I see no advantages: Same speed, same torque than the 85.

What do you think?

You are correct Funkey, it looks to be the exact HS85MG , its just digitalised..
My servo of choice at the moment is the HS85MG using 6 volts , it is the best that I have used to date..
I would like to try and make the S9650 Futaba fit in the EP8 frames, I think the s9650 would be the best servo for the EP8, its fast , strong and centers perfect!!

You could try 94761. It's a little shorter the hs-85. But overall spec is beter. And the cheaper alternative, yet similar spec than 94761, you could go with ds-577. This one has similar dimaention with hs-85. I have used this one as a tail servo on my 450 and it worked great..... HS-85 is not bad at all.... Now that the digital version is soon to come out. It will perform a lot better. It will be more precise, and reacts quicker......

Guys,

Is that kind of cool or what? There is a guy who collects loads of servo data:

Enjoy!

I'm running the jr ds368BB's on over 6 volts. They are doing good for me.

Okay , I have been chopping and cutting and grinding and sanding and Dremaling and tapping on a set of EX frames to try and get some s9650 Futaba servos to fit on the cyclic ... Well , I finaly got them to fit , just barely , the problem I ran into was that there is not enough room between the swashplate anti-rotation bracket.. It took quite a bit of grinding on the bracket to get it to work, but it does work...
The best servo I have found to use on the EP8 EX is the HS85MG , and I have found that this servo just does not have enough torque , it will stall on extreme manouvers , going from full positive pitch to full negative pitch...
The only downfall to using the s9650 is that the leads are too short and you have to use extensions...
I will try and get a camera to post some pics..
