At our flying field this last weekend there was an IMAC event, the 1st one that I have been too. There are a few of our pilots that fly these large airplanes, but this was the 1st time that I saw a whole field of planes that were in the 30% and up size. Just to see that many large planes is amazing.

I saw a few fly and also got to see many of the great scores, since I was involved in the a totalling the some of the scores. The best move I liked was the rolling circles. I thought that the flying was at a very high level, but when I asked a fellow heli pilot what he thought of the event, who BTW used to fly planes before, he said that quite frankly he thinks flying planes is boring. He also added that watching planes fly is even more boring!

For me I'm amazed at anything that flies, but I have seen that many plane pilots do now fly helis for more excitement. Many have not turned back since. But my friends comment about planes being boring was way too funny!

Having my heli: Cool, Having a working heli: Awesome, Having a day to fly: PRICELESS!

dunno..
for me.. seeing a 30-40% aircraft hanging on the prop with its tail inches off the ground is pretty cool.. jets also rock.

Extreme aerobatics if done well is very cool as well..

And frankly.. the way most heli pilots fly today.. I don't care to watch it much... I appreciate the difficulty to do it.. but it is not fun to watch a very erratic flight.. Smooth it out and to bigger tricks.. now you are talking.. but 10 full minutes of piro flippin is out for me

(now spell checked... sorry.. forgot to do that)

I don't find watching planes of flying them boring. I don't find them as fun as helis though. And people flying planes around in ovals is a little boring. Having been learning helis, I would get frustrated. Finally, I bought a trainer plane and gained some enjoyment because I wasn't crashing and was able to do more with it. It was fun for me to fly the plane because it was relaxing. Its more fun for me to fly the heli because of all the different variables involved.

Man, I miss the eighties.

I really like watching a good precision acro routine but I do think that hovering a fixed wing is boring. I'd rather try timed touch-and-goes with an Avistar.

Bored???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that midwestpilot just about covered it for me too!!!!!!
Heli's or planes all doing (or attempting to) all day is what bores me.... but mix it up and let me fly both and I am a happy pilot!!!!

totally depends on aircraft and how good the pilot is, same for heli's

Watching a guy hover a heli for 10 minutes puts me to sleep

I love my planks and I love my helis - they do different things for me. I also fly a plank to chill before the next heli flight as mentioned above!

When I can torque roll continuously with the tail just above the ground I might consider starting to get bored - but in the mean time I enjoy the grace and beauty of aeroplane flight way too much.

If it's all the same thing it can be boring, but a mix of Heli's, Jets, Pattern, Speed, 3D and Giants makes it cool to watch and of course a newbie who insist he doesn't need help is fun too.

If it's gonna happen it'll happen up there!

Absolutely not boring. I learned to fly with planes when I was much younger and built completely from balsa box kits. There's nothing like coming in for a landing, and hearing the air brush over the prop and airfoil, and come to a feather soft landing.

Is a bi-flyer(planks and helis), I find planks fun to fly but boring to watch. I find helis fun to fly AND fun to watch.

Planes can be boring when are flown in simple circuits.
Watching an experienced pilot perform a harrier roll circuit a couple of feet off the ground is far from boring.
There's nothing like coming in for a landing, and hearing the air brush over the prop and airfoil, and come to a feather soft landing.
Yeah, especially if you're autorotating a heli.

Planes are boring if flown by boring people

As far as I'm concerned, planes, as well as helicopters, could be boring (ever see a guy just hover for hours????) But it takes a certain type of person to "push the envolope" a bit to get the adrenaline pumping.

For sure Ray, Adrenaline is the Key !! I flew planes for ten years and went thru the gammit. There is something about heli's that seems to pose the ultimate RC challenge ????

I would say more relaxing than boring. I can't really relax while flying heli's. But I can totally relax while flying airplanes as the flying is automatic. I had hoped to get that way with helicopters, but after flying them for many, many years my palms still get sweaty!!

I couldn't agree more. I think it takes a tremendous amount of timing and coordination to fly like some of the top pilots. I haven't been to an IMAC event, but I intend to when the next one comes around my way. Especially would be cool if I could see an Indoor foamie event!

I've never really been drawn to planes as they seem so limited in what they can do. I'm not saying I'm not impressed with seeing a pilot control his craft with fantastic precision, I am, but... Perhaps one aspect of planks that's impressed me most is the small indoor foamies with variable pitch props, prop hanging nose down, flying backwards etc etc. I do like the very low costs of planes and what you can do with it for so little expendature, but they just don't compare to helis for the pop you get. Perhaps that's unfair because a plane is not a heli, rather a differenct class of aircraft, just like gliders, rockets or hot air balloons.

I fly both and would have to say planes are a (little) on the boring side but just flying in cirles with a heli can be boring also...

I started with planes and now fly helis as well. I don’t do either one with a great amount of expertise, but I enjoy it.

I like to watch good pilots fly either planes or helis; it is cool to see what these machines are capable of.

As far as adrenaline; I have to say that the most exciting RC activity I’m involved with is combat. There is a group of us who build our own flying wings and use them for full contact combat. It is an absolute BLAST!

Instructor: Don’t you know anything? Newbie: I don’t even suspect anything!
