Just checked out the website and this looks awesome.Tent camping!! I am in!! There is nothing better than crawling out of your tent and smelling nitro first thing in the morning. My self and 6 buddies did the same thing at Bakersfeild this year and had a great time. Can't wait!!:All these micros somehow turned my 450 into my BIG machine!?!?!?

ok folks. Things have been hectic to say the least just rolling off of IRCHA as well as some upcoming travel plans. Mitch & Jason, thanks for all the support and for doing a great job!

I have to hand it to Cliff S. and Jason, they did a superb job on the site. We have several contributing members of the staff whom will be posted on the site soon for email accessability. Though the event has been renamed LA 3D helicopters, it still welcomes all venues of RC Heli flying.

What to expect:
As you can see, we've moved the event out of the heat. Though with summer being cool through August, I hope we don't get plagued with a late summer heat!

There will be lots of media coverage this year as we are focusing on getting as much contributing photo/video-ographers out to the event. Our attention is on both promoting the hobby and making a great/fun event.

Valley flyer member, glfloat has been hard at work preparing event coordination. Both he and 3D WASP will be collaborating on the RC Heli events scheduled to take place on Sunday.

There so much more to mention as we've been hard at work both preparing the field/facilities to the event itself. We do need some help (mostly in the preparation stage) so PM me if your willing and capable.

I'll leave it to the site to fill in the details. Please take a look and PM me if you have questions.

Thanks!

Hi everybody,
Just got back into town last weekend after being away for a while. The website is looking pretty great (thanks Cliff)and our field is seeing all kinds of improvements. And especially thanks to Bert and the Boys for putting the event pieces together. Maybe I should go out of town more often?
I've heard about some of the things planned during a Club meeting the other night - vendors, advertisers, food and camping plans, flyers, traffic and parking issues. But, whose coming?
There is a little more than a month to go. I know a lot of the regulars and locals.
PM me or post here. Sounds like it is going to be a fun one with lots of new interest and new ideas.
Mitch out.

When we did the photoshoot, the Trex was really having a bad day, demanding special water, foods, lighting. The Avant was brought in at the last minute when the Trex stormed off the set.

The poster was designed by Cliff, our field's Media Director. Cliff is an outstanding digital graphic artist who's primary interests are in planes/jets. He extends his skills for the benefit of the LA3D event and has chosen an arbitrary helicopter purely for aesthetics. There is no politicism or marketing (outside of making an attractive poster) behind our decision of our poster and it will remain the same.

Hi This is GLFloat (Austin). I am the contest director.

I am excited to announce that we are also hosting the first ever LA3D Helicopter Contest. Guys, this is a chance for you to compete and show us what you got.

We are accepting entries immediately. Please go to http://www.la3d.org/contests.html for info.
All non-sponsored pilots are qualified to join. The event supports a light hearted competitive spirit but also serves as a pilot for a new quantitative RC Heli 3D judging system. The Judging system will be based on a set of common maneuvers as well as synchronization to music. We ask that you either bring your own music or you may choose to “wing it” and fly with our music.

The contest will begin on Sunday October 12th at 12:00 noon. There will be a pilot debriefing at 11:30 prior to the beginning of the contest.

There are no class restrictions. 450s all the way up to 90s are welcome.

There is only one level which we are calling the "intermediate/novice" class.

Deadline for entries is Sept 28th.

I will be posting updates soon.

Lets do this!

Show the LOVE here on RR! A lot of people are working very hard to make this the best heli event that SoCal has seen to date.

Tell your friends, and your friends friends. Spread the word. The more people that show up, the more fun this will be.

I fealt it was worth noting...

for those of you who are wondering if you are good enough to compete. This is THE event that I would encourage you to try your skills. The known maneuvers are not really that difficult, and you fly 3 of the 6 known maneuvers of YOUR choice. We judge on how cleanly you perform the maneuver.

Try it, we promise it will be a rewarding experience for you!

Just wondering, is the entire field going to be closed to planes for this event? I was originally thinking it would be just be in the usual heli area, but after reading here, it sounds like a much bigger event than the three heli pads can hold. I wasn't planning on bringing any helis because with so many people and so little flying space, I figured I would get very few flights in. If I do bring them, how many flights should I expect to get? Sorry if its a silly question, but even though I've been coming to the Basin to fly all year, I've never been to a heli fun fly, here, or anywhere else, so I'm not really sure how it works.

Thanks

-David

Whale boy, I got sixteen flights in last year (in the blazing heat) If you want to fly you can fly almost as much as you want. My goal for Saturday this year is a nice even twenty flights. Oh yeah I only ever go for Saturday.
